THE SUBSTITUTE LUNA (IRIS and DRACO) novel Chapter 8

IRIS.

My lashes fluttered, but I kept my eyes closed, trying to hear what was going on around me. I could smell the expensive leather from where I was lying.

It didn’t take long before the event that took place today came rushing into my head, and I abruptly sat up. Only for me to wince when pain surged through my body.

They were from the lashes and the punch given by Constantine. My legs were also hurting from all the running.

The pain reliever I took had worn off, and it felt like something was digging in my bones. The tablet Constantine had bought for me was so strong that it allowed me to stand and work even after a beating, but I usually take them at given intervals for two days. Without any pain relief at the moment, I felt my body deteriorating.

I pressed my back against the soft cushion where I was seated. It was painful, but hunching was harder. I was inside a car, and I was sure Alpha Draco, who was seated in the front, and the man driving had seen me get up from being slumped in the back seat.

They didn’t say anything, but I saw the Alpha looking at me from time to time through the rearview mirror.

I swallowed the pain and tried to steady my breathing. I needed to ask for a painkiller, or I wouldn’t be able to sleep with how the pain was torturing me.

I wondered where we were. I fell asleep under the tree, and they might have carried me into this car.

I was not able to add more to my thoughts because the car stopped in front of a large house.

“We’re here.” The Alpha’s deep baritone voice echoed around the car as the engine stopped.

My forehead creased because this was not the house that I remembered that we visited when he found out Felicity was his fated mate. This one looked like it was newly built.

“Change your clothes.” Alpha Draco said while handing me a folded shirt. He was already wearing clean clothes, while I was still in my torn shirt.

I took what he handed me and watched as both of them got out of the car. He told me to hurry before closing the door.

Despite struggling with the pain, I removed my tattered shirt and replaced it with a new one. It smelled of the Alpha, which only made me want to put it on me.

As soon as I was ready, I knocked because I couldn’t find the handle. The Beta opened the door, and I forced myself to move quickly despite the pain, but the moment I stepped out, my knees wobbled, and I immediately reached for someone to hold.

Beta Roman was quick to catch me, and when I was able to stand straight, he let go of his hand on my elbow, but I remained holding on to his forearm, and this was what Alpha Draco saw when he glanced at us.

“If I were you, I would refrain from holding or touching any man in my presence.” He said in a cold voice, and I immediately withdrew my hand from the Beta.
