IRIS.
“The last one died a month ago,” Delta Liam answered nonchalantly.
I swallowed, and I felt the color drain from my face. I had so many questions, but I wasn’t sure if I had the right to ask.
“Enough, Liam. Don’t terrify her more,” Beta Roman said as he grabbed my elbow. “Let’s go. The Alpha might…”
“Iris…” A cold voice came from inside the house, making the Beta stop midway through his sentence.
I didn’t wait for anyone to instruct me on what to do. I moved on my own and hurried to enter the house, slowly turning my head around to look for Alpha Draco. I found him waiting for me in one of the corridors, so I walked toward him.
He began walking before I could reach him, so I just followed him.
“This is the dining room, and that entryway there at the back will lead you to the central kitchen.” He stopped as he spoke, and I nodded my head. I thought he would say that was where I would work, but then he began walking again.
He then pointed to the stairs leading to the basement and told me what could be found there. He also pointed to the corridor leading to the back patio, as well as the corridor leading to his office.
I was expecting that at any moment, Felicity would appear, but even after the mini tour of the ground floor, I didn’t see her, and the Alpha didn’t say anything about her.
He then told me he had things to attend to and left me with one of his house helpers, who gave me something to eat before walking me into my room. The helper was quiet the whole time, so I didn’t dare to ask anything, not even her name.
Once I closed the door assigned to me, I let out a deep sigh. I was given a big room on the third floor—a room that looked too far from a servant’s room. And I had no idea if I should celebrate that or be terrified.
I walked toward the bed, and I saw there were two sets of clothes—one consisting of nightwear and the other of pants and a shirt.
I also saw a door, and I walked toward it, turning the handle slowly. A smile curled on my lips when it opened to a bathroom, a big one. With a bathtub.
My body was in pain, but I thought a nice warm bath would help since I was not able to ask anyone about a pain reliever, as I was terrified of being shouted at.
I stepped inside the bathroom and headed directly to the tub. I turned the knobs and set the temperature to my desired setting, letting the water fill it before walking back to the bedroom.
I was about to remove my clothes when a knock came through the door.
“Who’s there?” I asked.
“Me.” One word, and my heart thundered.
