The silence of that room was so loud that it could be cut through a knife. Her eyes remained lowered. For once, she didn't try to look back at her parents, who had already left that house. Tears silently flew down from her eyes, and he just gazed at her for some moments before his feet decided to make their way closer to her.
Theron's feet paused right in front of her, who had still refused to keep her head up. Now she was not even trying to run away from him because now she knew her only shelter had abandoned her. Her only shelter had taken her shed away from her.
Her own parents had left her to this man to die, to suffer.
She didn't have anything else to hold onto anymore.
Not even her life.
“It wouldn't have hurt so much if I would have been the only sinner in your life, Eizlina,” his words successfully managed to burn her eyes with tears of pain. Yes, he was right. He was absolutely right.
This wouldn't have hurt her so much if she would have never succeeded in finding out that her own parents had shoved her in this cage where she was going to receive nothing but pain. At least, she would not have felt so betrayed and broken if she would have always remained in the dark.
So he was right.
His gaze lingered on her lowered head for a brief moment, and he didn't even need to listen to her words to know what she had been feeling at that moment. He knew everything.
He knew the pain of losing your only solace and comfort. He knew how it felt when your only answer left you with dozens of unresolved questions.
He knew how it felt to get completely covered by the darkness when you were searching and in need of that one ray of light.
“We are leaving. Let's go,” he uttered to her and attempted to walk past her, until….
“I am going nowhere with you anymore,” her words stopped his steps from going further away from her. Tilting his head, he looked at her and finally saw her turning her own head in his direction.
His gaze came in contact with those moistening eyes of hers which had reddened with the sharpness of her big and warm tears.
“I will not go anywhere with you,” saying that she attempted to turn around to run away from there, but he grasped her wrist to stop her from leaving him.
Theron aggressively pulled her back to her place.
“Have you already forgotten what your parents said to you?” He seethed out at her, losing his patience with her because this girl was more stubborn than he had assumed her to be, and her stubbornness was getting on his last nerve now.
She was testing his patience since the second he touched her, but the irony was he was still trying to hold his calmness with her. Probably because he knew what would happen the second he would forget about his restraint with her.
But he should not be caring about what would happen to her…. should not he?
“Staying with me is the only option you have if you want to survive in this life,” he reminded her the words of her parents and this made Eizlina clench her jaw. She forcefully snatched her wrist from his hold, and he let her go somehow this time.
“I don't need this life if I would have to survive it with someone like you,” she spat at him. Hearing her words, the corner of his mouth tugged upward, forming a devilish grin on his face.
Theron took a step closer to her, removing the needed distance between their bodies. Slanting his head down, he peered into her shimmering brown eyes.
“Good for you, my dove,” his hot breathing fanned over her face, causing her body to get filled with goosebumps.
