Judging by Fiona's reaction, she probably wasn't the one who had ordered the attack on Summer. Elara was debating whether to sign the humiliating agreement to stay and investigate when the butler received a phone call. After a whispered conversation with Fiona, she became agitated.
"Are you signing it or not? If not, get out. My son might get tired of you before he even recovers, and then I'll have to personally escort you out."
Just then, a soft, gentle voice drifted over. "Mrs. Lawrence, do you have a guest?"
Elara turned toward the voice.
Pearl covered her mouth in feigned surprise. "Oh, it's Miss Jules."
Elara's eyes lingered on her for a moment before she picked up the pen and signed the agreement.
Pearl craned her neck to see. "Mrs. Lawrence, what is this…?"
Fiona's expression softened considerably. "It's just Jason," she sighed. "His memory is all mixed up, and he's treating trash like treasure. As his mother, I have to think about his present condition and his future after he recovers."
Pearl nodded. "You're the best mother."
Fiona's eyes filled with a maternal warmth at her words, but when she looked back at Elara, her expression turned harsh again. "Do you have a fiancé in mind?" she asked curtly.
Pearl's fingers tightened into a fist as she waited for Elara's answer.
"No," Elara replied calmly.
Pearl smiled. It seemed Zane was just toying with her after all.
She turned to Fiona. "If she doesn't have anyone, Mrs. Lawrence, you could always arrange someone for her."
