Chapter 80
Sophia fully agreed with Helen. She was eager to get a divorce from Lucas right away.
However, Lucas flatly refused. “I don’t want a divorce. Mom, stay out of my business.”
He asked Kevin to check on the man who took Sophia that day, and, as he thought, it was Richard, the Sterling family heir, who kept a low profile but acted decisively when needed.
Until he understood how Sophia got involved with Richard, he would never divorce her.
Helen pointed at his right arm, still in a cast, scolding him. “Lucas, are you insane? Look what she did to you. Do you still
love her?”
Lucas still refused to divorce Sophia. He thought, ‘She pursued me relentlessly before, and now she insists on divorcing me. What am I to her? I’m not some pet she can just play with.’
He said, “Sophia and I know what we’re doing. No matter what you say, I won’t divorce her.”
Helen’s veins bulged in anger as she glared at Sophia without a word. She wondered, ‘How has this woman bewitched Lucas so completely?‘
Emily stood quietly at the top of the stairs, her hatred growing. She thought Lucas would kick Sophia out after this, but he didn’t: he even refused to divorce her.
She wondered, ‘Why? Has he fallen for Sophia? No, I will never allow this. Lucas belongs to me.‘
Sophia gripped the couch tightly with both hands, trying to control her rising anger. She looked calmly at Billy. “Mr. Westwood, what do you want me to do to get you to agree to my divorce from Lucas?”
The thought of having to continue pretending to be a loving couple with Lucas made her feel sick.
Billy said gently, “Sophia, you are still a member of the Westwood family. I’m afraid you’ll need to take good care of Lucas for the time being. Once he’s recovered, you can return to the Marketing Department.”
Sophia stood up quickly. “Lucas already fired me. I’m not going back to work.”
Billy said, “If you don’t want to return to the Marketing Department, you could apply to the R&D Department. You’ve always liked doing experiments, right?”
Sophia’s mind went completely blank. She stared into Billy’s eyes, realizing for the first time just how much he knew about
her.
It seemed that Billy knew about all the experiments she had done in the R&D lab over the past three years, and that he had tacitly allowed her to work with Brody.
She suddenly realized that Billy opposed her divorce from Lucas because he still saw her as useful.
Lucas scowled, clearly unhappy. “Dad, she doesn’t know anything. How could you let her mess around in the R&D Department?”
“Shut up.” Billy looked at Lucas with both anger and disappointment. “Lucas, you’ve been married to Sophia for three years, but you know less about her than I do. I am truly disappointed in you.”
“Dad,” Lucas stamped his foot in frustration.

Billy rubbed his temples, frustrated by Lucas‘ childishness. If Lucas hadn’t fired Linda, he wouldn’t have had to go to such lengths to keep Sophia.
“Okay, get some rest. We should go.” Billy had made up his mind, and no one dared to argue further.
Sophia sat on the couch, watching Billy and Helen leave, feeling irritated.
As she expected, a divorce wouldn’t be easy. Her only hope lay with the troublemakers, David and Emily. The more mischief they caused, the sooner she could free herself from Lucas.
Lucas tentatively sat on the armrest of the couch, trying to get a little closer to her.
However, Sophia immediately noticed his movement, lifting her head to stare at him indifferently.
Lucas hesitated for a moment. “Stop playing. Let’s talk.”
Sophia ignored him, her focus entirely on the game. She tapped the screen, guiding the furious girl in the game to swing
her sword at the monsters.

Only when the monsters‘ health bars ran out did she exit the game, lifting her head to look at Lucas coldly. “Divorce me, and then we can talk.”
Lucas clenched his teeth, restraining his anger. “I won’t divorce you.”
Sophia said, “Then what about Emily? If you don’t divorce me, she’ll always remain just your mistress.”
Thinking of Emily, a sharp pang tugged at Lucas‘ chest. Yet he had no intention of divorcing Sophia, unwilling to give her a
chance to be with Richard.
He said, “Sophia, I can divorce you, but there’s one condition.”
Sophia squinted, sensing that his demand would be extreme. “Go on.”
“As long as you bear a child for Emily and me, I’ll divorce you,” said Lucas.
