Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 11

Travis' brows knit together, his good looks spoiled by exasperation.

“I’ve told you so many times. Leila is just my sister. I don’t see her that way. Why can’t you trust me?”

Amanda rubbed her forehead, already tired.

She and Travis had never been able to talk about Leila.

They hadn’t before, and now she didn’t even have the energy to try.

She just shrugged. “Whatever you and Leila are, that’s between you two. It’s not my problem. Travis, I want you to act like a grown-up for once. The relationship’s over. Stop dragging it out, okay?”

Travis' expression went cold. “I’m dragging it out?”

He let out a sharp, bitter laugh, looking down at her with sarcasm written all over his face. “For seven years, who was really hanging on to whom?”

Amanda’s chest tightened.

Seven years’ worth of memories flashed through her mind.

She almost wanted to slap herself for how desperate she’d been.

Travis realized he’d gone too far, and just as he was about to backtrack, Amanda cut him off with a steady, unwavering look.

“You’re right. I was the one holding on for those seven years. I admit it. I made my bed, and I’ll lie in it. But that’s over now. I’m done. I’m letting you go, Travis.”

Travis' face went ice cold. “Made your bed? That’s how you see it?”

Amanda didn’t want to argue anymore. She knocked on the door, nodding toward it.

“Have your people open the door.”

Travis was fuming inside, but he didn’t want to keep fighting, either.

He knew he’d screwed up.

Canceling the engagement party out of nowhere, not even thinking about how she’d feel—that was on him.

Of course she’d be upset, but did she really have to make such a scene?

He decided to let it go.

He pointed stiffly at the dining table. “That’s your seat. Let’s eat first.”
