Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 12

At first, Travis thought Amanda’s jinx was hilarious. He was genuinely intrigued by it, even spent his valuable free time digging into how it worked.

So what changed? Well, she kept using it to curse Leila. And that was a line Travis wouldn’t let anyone cross. Leila was his soft spot, his absolute bottom line. There was no way he’d ever put up with that. So he started clamping down on Amanda, forbidding her from ever using her so-called jinx again.

Travis had come all this way to find her, and Amanda couldn’t help but think it was mostly because of the canceled engagement. Now, she was using his one weakness against him. She figured there was no way he’d keep chasing her after this. Leila was his everything, after all.

Amanda glanced at him and saw the anger smoldering in his eyes. She sneered to herself, feeling a tiny sting in her chest. Of course Leila was number one. Amanda turned and walked away, already pulling herself together. She and Travis were done. Whatever happened with him and Leila had nothing to do with her anymore.

She had just reached the door when, out of nowhere, Travis lifted her straight off the ground and threw her over his shoulder.

She yelped, startled. “Travis, what are you doing? Put me down!”

Travis' jaw was set as he gave her a firm smack on the backside. “Stop moving.”

Amanda was mortified, furious and burning with embarrassment. Their commotion had turned every head in the restaurant. Travis was stupidly good-looking—if he wasn’t, Amanda would never have fallen for him at first sight and chased after him like a lovesick puppy. He also had this powerful, commanding vibe that made it obvious he wasn’t just any regular guy. People were probably imagining some dramatic scene: her trying to run, him swooping in, her getting caught in the end.
