Amanda and Cindy sat quietly, waiting for someone to pick them up.

Mateo showed up first. After signing the forms and promising he’d take responsibility, he was able to take Cindy home.

“I’ll wait for you outside,” Cindy told Amanda.

Amanda waved her off. “Go ahead. Shane will be here soon.”

But Mateo didn’t leave. He stood there, staring at Amanda with a weird look on his face. “You called Shane to pick you up instead of Travis?”

Amanda glanced at him, a little annoyed. Why did it matter to him who she called? Mateo was never the nosy type.

Cindy tugged at Mateo’s sleeve. “Amanda and Travis broke up, remember? She wouldn’t call him.”

Mateo had no comeback for that.

Just then, Amanda’s eyes lit up and she smiled, waving to someone behind Mateo. “Shane! Over here!”

Shane walked over, looking calm and put together. “Amanda, I’m here,” he said, gentle as ever.

Amanda scratched her head, embarrassed. “Sorry to drag you out this late, Shane.”

He just smiled. “It’s no trouble. I was close by anyway.”

After he signed all the paperwork, Amanda was free to go. Shane had already heard what happened and laughed softly. “Next time you want to have fun, maybe choose somewhere a little less sketchy.”

Amanda’s cheeks turned bright red. It was so awkward getting caught doing something stupid by someone she admired. She waved her hands, flustered. “Never again, I swear! I’ve learned my lesson.”

She’d wanted a little excitement, but landing in a police station was way too much. Having someone come bail her out was seriously embarrassing.

Shane’s smile was warm, almost doting. He reached over and ruffled her hair. “It’s really not a big deal. Don’t be embarrassed, and don’t feel ashamed. Just make sure you know your limits and don’t break the law. Everyone needs to let loose sometimes.”

Amanda looked at him, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Shane, you’re honestly the best! I’m so

touched!”

Seriously, he was so understanding it almost made her want to cry.

Shane’s smile only grew softer, the affection in his gaze almost overflowing. “It’s late. Let me drive you home.”

Amanda grinned back at him. “Thank you, Shane!”

Meanwhile, Travis watched from his car, seeing Amanda give that bright, happy smile to some other guy. Jealousy burned in his chest.
