Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 40

Amanda nearly lost it, her face barely holding together the calm she needed. Travis was always the picture of elegance and poise, every move smooth and deliberate, every word carefully chosen. Hearing the word nakedcome out of his mouth just felt so out of place. It’s almost scandalous.

Amanda just shrugged. If you want to stick around, suit yourself.

It wasn’t her time being wasted, after all,

Dr. King was already waiting for her, greeting Amanda with a smile and leading her into the VIP room. At thirty, Dr. King was the perfect advertisement for her own clinicher skin flawless, features refined and natural, though if you looked close you could spot the subtle traces of her work. Still, she was as close to perfect as it got.

Dr. King had a soft spot for Amanda. She’d seen plenty of beautiful girls in her line of work, but Amanda was something elselike she’d been crafted by the gods themselves. Those big, bright eyes seemed to hold a whole galaxy. Her skin was smooth as silk, every feature sharp and striking. It’s the kind of beauty you couldn’t fake, no matter how advanced the technology.

Amanda’s skin, even on her body, was flawless. In Dr. King’s eyes, Amanda was a living masterpiece. And to top that off, she was completely natural. Who wouldn’t be jealous?

Amanda followed Dr. King inside for her treatment and, of course, Travis tried to come in too. The procedure meant she’d have to undress, and since they’d already broken up, there was no way she was letting him see her like that.

She handed her purse and phone to him. Wait for me out here.

Then, without waiting for a reaction, she shut the door right in his face.

Travis didn’t argue. Honestly, he couldn’t bring himself to face the scar on her backthe one she got saving his life. That wound almost killed her.

He sat down in the VIP lounge, waiting in silence.

Suddenly, Amanda’s phone started buzzing with notification after notification. He glanced at the screen. Messages were popping up nonstop.

Without thinking, he unlocked it.

The second he saw the messages, his cool, collected face hardened.

Chad: [Amanda, you shameless bitch. You must’ve said something to Mr. Hill to get me fired. You are so disgusting!]

[Seriously, look at yourself. With your background, you actually think you can marry him? Dream on.] [Bet it felt great getting dumped at your own engagement party, huh?]

[He clearly doesn’t give a damn about you. Why are you still hanging on like a parasite?]

[Do you have any selfrespect at all? If I were you, I’d have killed myself from the shame by now.]

[So you managed to get rid of me. What difference does it make? You really think Mr. Hill cares about
