Travis, probably realizing she wasn’t going to message him back, tried video calling Amanda again.
This time, she answered by staring at her screen with a blank face and immediately hung up. She didn’t hesitate and blocked his number right away, just to make sure he couldn’t bother her anymore.
Over on Travis‘ end, he was furious. The cool, collected mask he always wore had cracked, and the anger rolling off him was so intense it felt like it could shatter the glass walls of the conservatory.
He fired off another message.
[Why won’t you answer my texts or pick up the phone?]
He was met with nothing but a glaring red exclamation point.
He got locked.
Perfect.
At that moment, James sent him a video.
Awkwardly enough, it was a clip of Travis calling and texting Amanda–caught in real time.
Travis watched as Amanda’s phone screen lit up with his call. She saw it, barely glanced at his name, and tossed the phone aside without a care. His text? She didn’t even bother to open it. When he tried the video call again, she looked straight–up annoyed and disgusted.
Then she powered her phone off completely.
Annoyed? Was she pissed because he interrupted her date with some random guy?
Fine. Whatever.
“Amanda, you really think you’re something, huh?” he muttered through clenched teeth.
He didn’t even think, just hurled his phone at the conservatory’s glass wall.
It shattered instantly. A piece of the screen flew back and sliced across his forehead, leaving a thin, bleeding line.
Travis barely noticed.
All he felt was this wild, uncontrollable anger burning him up inside. It was overflowing, impossible to
hold back.
On Amanda’s side, the moment she powered off her phone, silence settled over her like a warm blanket.
Finally, some peace.
Honestly, she was so over Travis. He hadn’t called her, much less video called, in over a year, maybe longer. And now? Out of nowhere, he was blowing up her phone like a maniac.
She used to wait for his messages. Now it all just felt like a headache she didn’t need.
Shane, of course, had noticed her phone ringing and saw her turn it off. But he didn’t say a word

about it.
That made Amanda like him even more. If he’d asked, she would’ve felt so awkward. She wouldn’t have known what to say. Shane’s way of respecting her boundaries made her feel understood and respected.
He was so gentle, so easy to be around.
With her phone off and Travis out of her mind, Amanda finally enjoyed a peaceful, cozy dinner.
By the time they finished, it was already past nine.
Shane clearly didn’t want the evening to end, but he knew the rules–on a first date, you make sure the girl gets home safe and on time.
“Let me drive you home,” he offered.
Amanda didn’t protest. It was nearly impossible to get a taxi around here.
“Thanks, Shane. I really appreciate it.”
“You kidding? You treated me to such an amazing dinner–getting you home safe is the least I can do.”
She couldn’t help but smile.
