Back when Travis first chose her, it was because Amanda never made a scene. She was quiet, easy. Now though, it was obvious. Travis was taking Amanda’s side.
Leila bit her lip, trying to keep her head clear. She gave David a small nod.
“I get it, David. I just need a little time alone. I need to think.”
David understood right away. He reached over and ruffled her hair the way he always did.
“Get some rest. Don’t stress too much about it.”
“Okay.”
He opened the door and left.
The second the room was empty, Leila’s whole expression changed. The gentle look dropped away, replaced by something cold and sharp. Her eyes flashed with anger.
“Amanda, you really think you can steal Travis from me? You’ll never be good enough.”
Right then, her phone buzzed with a new message. It was from Fiona.
[Ms. Price, Mr. Hill and Amanda will be holding their engagement party again in three days.]
Leila’s heart squeezed tight. She almost hurled her phone across the room, but then it started ringing. Chad’s name lit up the screen.
She forced herself to breathe, to let all the anger settle. She answered, sounding as calm as ever.
“Hey, Chad.”
Chad’s voice came through, rushed and desperate.
“Ms. Price, please—you have to help me. I’m begging you.”
