Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 74

At first, Amanda figured a guy as proud as Travis would never let her be the one to break things off. And just as much, someone like him couldn’t stand being ignored. So she decided to give him the cold shoulder for a while, thinking he’d lose interest on his own.

These past few days, Travis had been trying to win her back, but she could see right through him. He was tired, and honestly, he didn’t look like he wanted to try anymore. She wondered how much longer he’d keep this up.

But instead of finally breaking up, now he wanted to get engaged again? She seriously couldn’t figure out what was going on in his head.

Cindy sounded a little disappointed on the phone. “So we won’t be able to see each other for a long time?”

Amanda rolled her eyes. “You travel all the time anyway. Just come visit me and we’ll hang out.”

“Oh, true,” Cindy said, perking up right away. If she was going to be traveling, she could just make Amanda a regular stop.

They chatted for a bit longer before Amanda hung up. She made up her mind to keep a low profile for the next few days, just to keep Travis from getting suspicious. Once her documents for going abroad came through, she’d bail. She wasn’t going to keep playing his games.

When Travis got to the office, Zack was already waiting for him with a stack of files.

The night before, Travis had sent Zack a video from the hospital and told him to find out who the person in it was, and who was behind it.

Zack moved fast. With the video and the fact that the club was run by Hill International, it wasn’t hard to look up the server in question. But the results were... weird.

Travis read through the report carefully, his eyes narrowing.

He let out a humorless snort. “A temp worker?

“A cancer patient who’s been dead for over two years?

“The manager who hired him also died of cancer?

“There’s a huge sum in his account from Jonah?”
