Travis' brow furrowed. By now, David and his team should’ve been halfway out of the country with Leila. He answered the call.
David’s voice was panicked, almost breathless.
“Travis, you need to hear this. Leila’s gone. We made it to the airport, she said she needed the bathroom, and then—poof—she vanished!”
Travis was already on edge, but hearing that made him snap.
“What do I even pay you for? You can’t handle something this simple? Find her. Now. And when you do, get her out of here immediately.”
David felt totally helpless. He knew Travis was dead serious this time. He’d tried to talk Leila into leaving with him since Travis' mood lately had been all over the place. David figured it was best to just lay low for a while, let things cool down, and then come back when it was safe. Everything Travis was doing lately was about keeping Amanda happy, even the big engagement party. Fine, let him do it. Who knew what would happen in the future anyway? There was no point picking a fight with Amanda now.
Leila had agreed to go, at least in words. But at the airport, she’d changed her mind. She ran for it. And now David was getting blamed. Unbelievable. Leila was something else.

Meanwhile, Amanda was just trying to chill. If Travis wanted an engagement party so badly, whatever—she’d go along with it. What was one more engagement? She relaxed on her bed, gaming on her phone.
Halfway through her game, a notification buzzed.
It was from Chad.
She opened the chat. Chad had sent her a picture.
The moment Amanda saw it, her heart skipped a beat. Her eyes widened.
It was Leila—tied up.
Leila’s hair was a mess, her clothes rumpled, eyes wide with fear. Her mouth was sealed with black tape, and she was strapped to a chair.
Game forgotten, Amanda shot upright and messaged Chad.
[What’s this supposed to mean?]
