Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 78

Travis watched her, feeling like something heavy was pressing against his chest, making it hard to breathe.

His voice was low as he said, “This isn’t your problem. Don’t worry about it. Just go get some sleep.”

“Okay,” Amanda replied without hesitation.

Honestly, Amanda didn’t think any of this had anything to do with her. And even if it did, it’s not like she could help. Travis clearly cared about Leila more than anything—he’d never let anything bad happen to her. No reason for Amanda to stress over it.

So she just went upstairs and called it a night.

Meanwhile, Travis was still trying to track down Chad. But after years as Travis' assistant, Chad knew every trick in the book and how to disappear without a trace. No matter how hard Travis looked, he couldn’t find a single lead.

Amanda, on the other hand, honestly couldn’t care less. She spent the next day lounging around at home, sipping tea and enjoying her peace and quiet. She was actually a little curious—was Travis still planning to go through with the engagement party now that Leila had been kidnapped? The party was supposed to be tomorrow, and the invites were already out. It was almost entertaining, watching all this drama from the sidelines.

Around three in the afternoon, things took a turn.

Chad started a group chat.

There were four people: Chad, Travis, Amanda, and David.

Right away, Chad dropped a photo into the chat.

It showed Leila, looking a complete mess—her clothes torn, crouched in a dark corner, looking desperate and scared. Something about her seemed off, but the lighting was so bad it was hard to tell what was really going on.

Before Travis or Amanda could even react, David lost it.

David: [Chad, you sick freak! What did you do to Leila?]

[You ungrateful loser! Leila helped you out, and this is how you repay her?]
