Travis used to barely notice Amanda. She was never important enough to bother with, which meant Leila never had to take her seriously either.
But now, things had changed.
Amanda had to go.
Chad smirked, his tone light. “Relax. You have my word.”
He couldn’t help but feel a twisted satisfaction. He’d slept with Leila, the girl he’d always dreamed about. If Leila ended up with Travis, then Travis was just picking up Chad’s leftovers. The proud Travis Hill would be marrying a girl Chad had already slept with. Just thinking about it made Chad grin.
And Amanda? Well, if Travis was about to be marry Chad’s girl, then Chad figured he was owed a turn with Travis'. Amanda was gorgeous, after all. He wouldn’t be losing out. And anyway, he’d promised Leila he’d make Amanda disappear for good. He’d keep his word. But before that, he planned to have his fun.

At eight, Travis showed up at the agreed meeting spot with Amanda. He texted Chad.
[We’re here.]
Chad called him right away. Travis picked up.
“Get out with Amanda,” Chad ordered.
Travis got out, carrying Amanda. David, who’d followed behind in his own car, got out too.
“Hand Amanda to David. He’ll put her in his car,” Chad said.
Amanda scoffed quietly in Travis' ear. “You really want to hand me over to David?” She remembered too well what David had already done for Leila. If he’d run her down once, who knew what he’d do now?
Travis tried to reassure her, his voice gentle. “It’s okay. I’m right here.”
Amanda actually laughed, but it was sharp and cold. “Really? I’m in this mess because of you. Why would I feel safe? If anything, you’re exactly why I don’t.”
