Too Pretty to Be Your Backup novel Chapter 98

The second Leila lunged to throw the liquid, Amanda’s mind worked fast, running through every possible way to keep herself safe. But no matter how quick she was, she couldn’t guarantee she’d come out unscathed.

Sure enough, a few drops splattered onto the hand clutching the blanket.

Her brain flashed back to chemistry class. What do you do if you get sulfuric acid on your skin? Rinse immediately with lots of water. Wash away the acid, cool your skin, minimize the damage. Afterward, put on some baking soda solution or even toothpaste to prevent infection.

But here’s the thing—sulfuric acid burns. It should feel like your skin is on fire. Amanda felt… nothing.

And if it really was acid, the blanket she used to shield herself should have been eaten through by now, especially after Leila struggled so much. But Leila was still shrieking like a banshee, and the blanket was just damp.

Amanda spotted the bottle that had rolled to the floor, picked it up, and took a sniff.

There was no harsh chemical smell. Just plain liquid.

She let out a shaky breath, relief flooding her. And then, right on its heels, came white-hot anger.

Without thinking, she pinned Leila to the ground and started pummeling her through the blanket.

“I’ve had enough of you! You totally asked for this!”

“Ah! Help! She’s trying to kill me!” Leila howled.

Amanda’s fists flew. After years of swallowing her pride and putting up with Leila’s constant drama, she was finally getting her payback. She was leaving soon anyway. Why not get a little closure before she went? Especially since Leila had brought this on herself.

That’s when Travis burst into the room.

His eyes went wide and furious as he rushed over and yanked Amanda off Leila.

“Amanda, what the hell are you doing?!”

Travis' face was stone cold as he pulled the blanket away and helped Leila sit up.
