**A Divorce**
Josephine felt a surge of anger course through her veins, and without a moment’s hesitation, she delivered a swift kick to Marcus’s shin. “I specifically told you not to mention Xavier! It was you who chose to sleep with me, not him!” Her voice was sharp, laced with a mixture of fury and disbelief.
Marcus doubled over, his hands instinctively clutching his injured leg, a grimace of pain etched across his face. “Bitch! You think I wanted this? I was drunk! You practically forced me into it!” he spat back, his voice rising in a desperate attempt to shift the blame.
Josephine’s eyes narrowed, her expression turning icy. “Damn it, Marcus! You must have slipped something into my drink that night. How else could you explain it?” The accusation hung heavily in the air, a bitter reminder of the night that had spiraled out of control.
With a mocking sneer, Josephine challenged him, “Why don’t we go find Leona? You can repeat that little excuse right to her face. Let’s see if she buys your pathetic story.”
Marcus, feeling cornered, retorted, “A woman can force a man? Even if I did put something in your drink, you could have chosen someone else if you didn’t want me!” His voice trembled with indignation, but deep down, he knew he was losing this battle.
“Marcus, you were fully awake by the time it happened!” Josephine shot back, her frustration boiling over.
“Then why did you buy me that necklace worth tens of thousands of dollars?” he countered, grasping at straws, trying to turn the tide back in his favor.
“Because you’re Xavier’s sister-in-law! I didn’t want to create a scene!” he insisted, his voice rising in a mixture of anger and desperation.
Xavier, who had been standing silently, felt the weight of their exchange pressing down on him. He had heard more than enough from this sordid couple to know that they would never manage to pick themselves up again. With an icy demeanor, he interjected, “Brother-in-law, are you trying to do me a favor? My wife doesn’t recognize her as a sister, so I won’t acknowledge her as a sister-in-law either.”
At Xavier’s words, both Marcus and Josephine froze, their expressions shifting from anger to sheer terror. Marcus’s head snapped towards Xavier, while Josephine spun around, wide-eyed. When her gaze fell upon Aveline, who stood nearby with a look of disdain, Josephine’s heart plummeted, overwhelmed by a wave of shame.
Inside, Marcus was a storm of panic. He muttered a curse under his breath, “Fuck,” before hastily approaching Xavier and Aveline. “Xavier, please, it’s not what you think! This woman—she’s just spouting nonsense!”
Xavier’s voice was as cold as steel. “I’ve been listening to you for quite some time now. You’re telling me it’s not what I think? Are you implying that I’m so foolish I can’t comprehend what you’re saying?”
“Marcus, don’t waste my time. Come with me to explain this to Leona. If you can convince her to let it go, I’ll pretend none of this ever happened,” Xavier ordered, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Marcus’s anxiety skyrocketed, and he reached out, grasping for Xavier’s arm. “Xavier, please, just listen to me…”

When is the novel ending? It’s so unnecessarily long… not a single intimacy or connection just fighting and bickering from the beginning to end...
