Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 104

Chapter 82

Tim shrugged. Don’t thank me, thank yourself.” He’d sent the core concepts of Ashley’s project to Burke after they’d finalized it. Burke was extremely busy and hadn’t responded for over a week.

Only when Tim had received a message asking for their location did he realize Burke was free. Burke’s request for a meeting indicated he’d reviewed their proposal and valued this.

Tim had informed him of the situation here; that was why Burke came so soon.

Ashley was surprised by this sequence of events. Before she could comment, a voice rang out.”Sorry I’m late.”

Ashley froze.

It was Chase.

He walked calmly to Amanda.”Happy birthday, Grandma.” He presented a gift box.”I wasn’t sure if you liked the previous gifts, so I prepared another one. I hope you like this.”

Amanda’s smile vanished. But with guests present, she calmly accepted the gift, maintaining a polite distance. “Thank you. That was sweet.” She then said to a waiter, Please get us one more chair.”

Chase showed no surprise at seeing Burke. He just greeted him,”Mr. Burke.”

Burke responded curtly, “Mr. Sterling.”

With so many empty tables, a chair was quickly brought over. The question was where to place it.

Amanda and Burke were definitely not moving. Ashley had calmed down. She didn’t believe he was genuinely there for her grandmother’s birthday. Perhaps it was Emily who had asked him to come over.

After the initial surprise, she turned away, ignoring him. Tim disliked Chase, so he didn’t move either.

As the waiter hesitated, Chase instructed, “Put it here.” He pointed to the space between Burke and Ashley. The waiter assumed the Joneses wouldn’t object and asked everyone to move. Ashley and Tim reluctantly moved their chairs.

Sam, having eaten earlier, was playing video games upstairs.

The main table now had nine people: six Joneses, Burke, Tim, and Cindy.

Adding a chair was easy. The tricky part was that Chase meant he was going to sit between Ashley and Burke.

He looked at Ashley.”Is Sam upstairs?”

Ashley, without looking at him, replied, “Yes.”

He turned to Burke. Mr. Burke, when did you arrive?”

Burke responded curtly, “A few minutes before you.”

Chase asked, “Mr. Burke, still very busy, I presume?”

‘Yes.’

While their table maintained a semblance of order, the arrival of Burke had caused a sensation amongst the other guests. They immediately informed their friends at the Holden family’s banquet.

The news reached the Holdens and Monds. Catherine, unfamiliar with Burke and not a follower of national news, asked Tanya, “Who is Burke? Why is everyone reacting so strongly? Is he important?”

Tanya responded impassively, A world-renowned figure in Al, someone who can speak for the nation.”

Catherine was stunned.”Wow.”

A wave of envy washed over her.”So they know someone that powerful?”

Tanya’s tone remained cold. “They merely know him.”

Tanya was puzzled by Burke’s presence at Amanda’s birthday party. The Sterlings and the Joneses had no connection to him. Perhaps it was because of

Initially unhappy about it, Tanya realized Ashley and the Joneses lacked the power to exploit such a connection.

Burke’s presence meant something. It wouldn’t make a big difference, but it’d at least improve the Joneses’ standing.

Thinking of this, Jay frowned. Mary remained calm, patting his shoulder.”With Tanya, you can rest assured.” Their previous meeting had been canceled due to Burke’s prior engagement.

But future opportunities would arise.

Tanya was exceptional; she’d surely attract Burke’s attention.

Then, even Tim might join their side.
