“Mommy?”
Seeing Ashley’s preoccupied expression. Sam gently touched her face.

Ashley didn’t respond, carrying him downstairs. Chase closed his laptop and followed, pinching Sam’s cheek as he giggled against Ashley’s shoulder. Downstairs, Sam sat beside Ashley, eating happily. He didn’t forget to tell her what he wanted for breakfast the next day. Seeing Sam was better, Ashley said, “I have something to do later, I guess I’ll make those for you another time.”
Chase glanced at Ashley but remained silent. Sam wasn’t happy.”Mommy, you’re always busy with work. You just got back, and you’re leaving already? I don’t want you to go!”
Seeing him pout, Ashley realized that seeing him briefly once a month wasn’t ideal.”Okay, I will stay tonight.”
Sam smiled, adding, “And take me to school tomorrow.”
Ashley nodded. ‘Okay.”
After dinner, Sam, who had spent so long without seeing his mother, pulled Ashley upstairs. He excitedly shared stories about his classmates, teachers, and hobbies with her. Ashley listened. When she looked up, she saw Chase leaning against the doorway and watching them. She didn’t know when he’d arrived.
After bathing and drying Sam’s hair, Ashley prepared to wash up herself. Since her clothes weren’t in Sam’s room, she headed to the master bedroom.
The room was plunged in darkness; Chase wasn’t there.
As soon as she flipped the switch, she froze, almost wondering if she’d entered the wrong room.
She’d lived there for seven years; everything was familiar. Now, it felt utterly foreign. Everything had changed.
Well, not everything-the floor was the same. But the chandelier, curtains, bed, nightstands, small round table by the window, sofa, coffee table, rug, even the water dispenser and cups were all new.
Her vanity was gone, along with her toiletries.
She realized all traces of her had been deliberately erased. It made sense. Their divorce was almost finalized. The fact that Chase had her sign a new divorce agreement immediately after Tanya’s injury showed his urgency to divorce her and legitimize his relationship with Tanya. But their divorce hadn’t been fully processed yet, and he had already purged every vestige of her from the room.
Ashley took a step back. Just as she was about to turn off the light and leave, the housekeeper’s voice rang out.”Mrs. Sterling.”
Ashley turned and saw her carrying a tray with a steaming bowl of soup. “What’s the matter?”
The housekeeper smiled. Mrs. Emily Sterling left a lot of supplements when she came last time. She asked me to make some for you.”
Ashley Dudded. “Thank you.”
“Don’t say that,” The housekeeper replied. Then she added, “About your belongings… Mr. Sterling had me pack them up at the beginning of the month. I pur everything in the room on the third floor. Shall I get anything for you, or…?”
Astley and Chase signed the divorce agreement at the beginning of the month
Ashley said, “No, I’ll go get what I need later
Very well. Should I bring the soup to Sam’s room? This was a clear indication that Ashley was no longer welcome in Chase’s master bedroom. Ashley took the tray Til take it.”
“Alright”
Ashley turned off the light, carried the soup to Sam’s room, and drank it. Afterward, she went upstairs. Her belongings were neatly arranged in a spare room on the third floor. The room was clean and tidy, a testament to the housekeeper’s diligent cleaning.
She gathered the clothes and toiletries she needed, then went downstairs to shower with Sam. After showering and reading, she prepared for bed. Before sleeping, Sam said, “Mommy, I’m going to say goodnight to Daddy. Will you come with me?”
Ashley shook her head. ‘No, you go ahead.”
“Okay.”
