Chapter 129

Jeffery looked at her. Let’s talk.”

You wanna talk, or judge me?”

Jeffery sighed. “I’m serious. I hope you’ll put aside personal feelings and prioritize the company’s best interests.”

Ashley was amused. “I thought I should be saying that to you.” He’d let his feelings for Tanya cloud his judgment during their negotiations, yet he accused her of abusing her authority.

She ignored him, got in her car, and left. Jeffery’s face darkened. His phone rang. After the call, he left as well.

Half an hour later, Jeffery arrived at a private room. Benjamin and Matt were there. Seeing his grim expression, Benjamin asked, “No luck?”

Jeffery had visited Eternal several times, but Tim had refused to meet him. He finally met Ashley, but she wouldn’t eve talk to him. He shook his head.

Seeing Jeffery’s frustration, Benjamin said, “Tim won’t see you, and Ashley says no. Getting that Eternal project… looks pretty tough. But so what? There are plenty of profitable projects out there. It’s not the end of the world.”

Jeffery shook his head. “I’ve thoroughly researched that project. I’m really interested.” He wanted in and it was not because of his father.

“Fine, Benjamin said. “Any other ideas?”

Benjamin glanced at Matt.”Hey, you and Ashley danced together the other night. You seemed to get along well. Since she won’t listen to Jeffery, maybe you could mediate and smooth things over.”

Matt, sipping his tea, put down his cup.”I don’t think so. I don’t know her well enough.”

Benjamin suggested, “Or you can talk to Tim. You two seem to have a connection.”

Matt replied, “I could, but I don’t think he’ll listen.” From Ashley’s reaction to the dance partner swap, he sensed Tim and Ashley weren’t romantically involved, but Tim clearly valued her highly.

He didn’t think he could change Tim’s mind.

Benjamin didn’t give up.”So, we still have to work on Ashley. But we don’t know her. Should we investigate her?”

Jeffery shook his head.

Forget it. I don’t want to waste time on her. I’ll contact my dad later.”

Matt immediately understood. “You want him to talk to Mr. Burke?”

Yes. Tim was Burke’s student. If Burke intervened, Tim would surely relent.

Actions spoke louder than words. On their way home, Jeffery unlocked his phone and was about to call Derek. But Derek called him first.

Derek cut straight to the chase.”How are things going with Eternal?”

Jeffery sighed. “I was going to ask for your help.”

“What do you mean?” Derek pressed.

Jeffery explained, “I offended a technician at Eternal, and Tim is-”

Derek interrupted, “What’s the technician’s name?”
