Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 171

Chapter 149

Ashley wasn’t surprised to see Sam. She patted his head. “Did you come after school?”

“Yes!” Sam was delighted to see her. He called out to Emily, “Great-grandma, Mom’s here!”

Emily had just responded when Chase emerged from the ward. Seeing them, he nodded curtly. Amanda’ expression was cool, but she said nothing. Ashley merely glanced at him before looking away.

Noticing Sam wanted to talk to her, Ashley said, “We’ll go see your Great-grandmother first.”

“Oh…”

Sam reluctantly gave up talking to Ashley, taking her hand and entering the ward. Chase took the flowers and fruit basket they’d brought, following

them inside.

Emily’s face lit up seeing Ashley and Amanda.”What brings you here?”

Amanda, seeing her struggling to sit up, stopped her.”Don’t you dare ask. You didn’t even tell us about your injury!” Emily’s smile faded slightly as she glanced at Chase, who was pouring water for Ashley and Amanda.”I was ashamed to see you…”

Ashley and Amanda took the water.

Amanda said, “It’s between them. You’re not to blame.”

“But I-”

Seeing Sam present, Emily couldn’t elaborate. Amanda patted her hand.”I know.”

After exchanging pleasantries, Emily turned to Ashley. Sam hadn’t seen Ashley since the school event. He missed her so much that he was practically crawling into her lap.

Ashley set down her cup, picking him up and settling him on her lap. Seeing Amanda looking over, he called, “Great-grandma.”

“Sweetheart.” Amanda beamed.

With Sam there, they couldn’t discuss Ashley and Chase’s divorce. Amanda and Ashley mostly talked about Emily’s condition. Upon learning about the surgery, Amanda said, “I’ll come tomorrow to keep you company.”

That would be wonderful, my old friend.” A visit would lift her spirits.

After a while, Emily remembered something.”You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Chase, get…”

“We’re good,” Amanda interrupted. “Ashley and I ate before coming.” She then coolly addressed Chase. “If you and Sam haven’t eaten, go ahead.”

Sam, longing for a meal with Ashley, hugged her neck.”Mommy, I missed you so much! Come and have dinner with us.”

Recalling what happened last night, Ashley smiled faintly and declined.”I’ve worked all day. I’m tired and don’t want to go anywhere.”

Sam couldn’t press further. But nestled in Ashley’s arms, inhaling her familiar scent, he didn’t want to leave. He looked at Chase. “Daddy, I want to eat here. Can we order takeout?”

Chase said, “Okay.”

Sam happily clung to Ashley. Amanda and Emily had much to talk about, leaving Ashley to occasionally chime in.

After a while, Sam grew tired.”Mommy, when will your work be done?”

Ashley didn’t want to talk about it here, so she lifted Sam and sat him on the sofa.”I’m not sure, but I will probably get busier.”

“What?” Sam was disheartened.”When can you take me skiing, Mommy?” He still remembered the promise

Ashley thought for a while.”Next month.”

“Really?”

“Yes,” Ashley said. “I’ll tell you when I have time.”

“Great!” Sam cheered up. Remembering last night, he asked, “Mommy, were you out shopping last night?”

Ashley paused. “Yes.”

“So, the person I saw was really you?”

“Maybe.”

As Ashley finished speaking, she noticed Chase looking at her. Sam hadn’t shopped with Ashley in a long time. While he’d found it boring before, now he missed it.”Next time when you’re free, can you take me shopping? We can also go to the arcade and ride the bumper cars!”

Ashley looked away. “Okay.”

Sam continued chattering. Chase took Ashley’s water glass, emptied it, and poured her a fresh glass of warm water.
