Chapter 193
Marshall was genuinely angry. Ignoring Chase, he turned to Ashley.”Come, Ashley, let me take you out to dinner.”
Ashley put down her teacup and stood. “Okay.”
Mecu
Marshall didn’t look back at Chase as he left with Ashley. Chase remained calmly seated. He was sipping his tea, neither following nor stopping them.
Tanya watched them go. He seems angry…”
Chase said, “It’s okay. He’ll be fine.” He meant that eventually Marshall would accept the situation.
Marshall had witnessed the first few years of Ashley and Chase’s marriage. Chase had never liked Ashley, and now he was in love with someone else. Chase had good relationships with Emily, Marshall, and other elders, but he was never one to be controlled by them. So, neither Emily nor Marshall could force him to do anything. That was why Marshall got so furious.
Marshall patted Ashley’s hand gently. “You’ve been through a lot. I’m sorry…”
Ashley knew he felt sorry for her. She smiled. “I’ve already moved on. I have my own life now, and I’m doing fine. Don’t worry about me.”
Marshall smiled. That’s good to hear.”
After dinner, Ashley drove Marshall home. When she dropped him off, Chase and Tanya were gone. Perhaps because Chase and Tanya hadn’t checked on Sam, Sam called Ashley while she was leaving Marshall’s mansion. However, Ashley didn’t answer.
That evening, at the Jones family, Ashley found an invitation on the coffee table. It was for Emily’s 75th birthday celebration.
In fact, Emily’s birthday was still some time away. A fortuneteller had told her ten years ago that she shouldn’t have a big birthday party years or something terrible would happen to her. Emily believed it; for ten years, her birthdays had been low-key family affairs.

Now that the ten years were over, Alex and Chase discussed throwing a grand party for her. Thus, even though her birthday was still a while away, the details were already finalized.
Amanda came out of her room. Seeing the invitation, she said to Ashley, “It just arrived.”
Ashley hummed in response.
Amanda continued, “This is her first big celebration in ten years. Normally, we should attend, but…”
Their relationship with Chase made things more complicated. Ashley didn’t really want to go there, and she knew what Amanda meant. She felt the same. Besides, since Chase had already brought Tanya to Emily’s, he might bring her to the birthday party as well.
Ashley put the invitation aside for now. After dinner, she returned to her place.
Monday morning, Ashley went back to work.
Time flew by; it was Thursday before Ashley knew it.
In the afternoon, during a meeting, Ashley got a call from Sam. She didn’t hesitate to hang up. Sam called again immediately. Ashley frowned but still didn’t answer. This time, Sam stopped calling.
Minutes later, Ashley’s phone rang again. It was Chase. Ashley’s lips tightened and she turned off her phone. She didn’t turn it back on until the meeting
was over an hour later,
She saw a text from Chase.
“Sam fell down the stairs at school and is in the hospital.”
Ashley froze, her mind going blank. She grabbed her purse and rushed out, heading for the hospital. On the way, she called Chase to find out which
ward Sam was in. He answered quickly and gave her the room number.
Ashley arrived. Chase and Sam were already there. Sam looked pale, ad his head was bandaged. Weak as he was, he was clearly glad to see Ashley.”Mommy…”
Ashley asked anxiously, “What happened? What did the doctor say?”
‘Concussion, but not serious.” Chase replied.
Ashley breathed a sigh of relief.”Thank God.”
