Chapter 194

Ashley was about to speak when Chase’s phone rang again. It was probably Tanya. He walked towards the door, answering the call in a gentle voice.”It’s not serious. Don’t worry…”

After he finished the call, Sam woke up. Seeing them both, he mumbled sleepily, “Daddy, Mommy.”

Ashley and Chase both answered, “Mmm.”

Perhaps still dizzy, Sam looked at Chase, then at Ashley. He frowned, his tiny brow creased in discomfort. Then, he drifted back to sleep.

Concerned about waking Sam, Chase and Ashley maintained quiet. After Sam fell into a deep sleep, Chase looked at Ashley.”Are you staying?”

Ashley didn’t speak, but her stillness answered him. Chase said nothing more and sat on the sofa across from the bed. Ashley, leaning against the bed, eventually fell asleep.

When Ashley woke up, dawn was breaking. She was lying in Sam’s hospital bed. She blinked, confused. She remembered that she didn’t…

She paused, glancing at the sofa. Chase was leaning against the cushions, his hand supporting his head. Then, perhaps because of her gaze, he woke up and his eyes met hers.

Ashley looked away, deciding not to ask whether he’d put her in the bed. Chase didn’t mention it either. He straightened, looking at her.”You wanna go

home for breakfast, or have it here?”

Ashley didn’t reply. She had her own plans. Chase didn’t seem angry and stopped asking.

Sam woke up a short while later. As the doctor came for a check-up, the housekeeper and Sam’s babysitter entered with food. Seeing Ashley, they greeted her politely, “Mrs. Sterling.”

Ashley frowned at the title but said nothing. They placed breakfast on the table; it was for three people.

“Mrs. Sterling, would you like some breakfast?” the housekeeper asked.

Ashley shook her head and spoke to Sam, who was eating.”Mommy needs to go home for a shower. I’ll see you later.”

“Okay, Sam mumbled weakly, his head still aching.”But come back soon…”

“I know.”

Ashley grabbed her purse, looked at Sam one last time, and left. Back home, she showered, had breakfast, and returned to the hospital. Before arriving, she called Tim and told him about Sam.”I might be back to the office this afternoon.”

Sam was her son, and she felt responsible for taking care of him.

Tim said, “Okay.”

At the hospital, Ashley saw Zark and Ethan. Ethan did not seem too pleased by her appearance. Zark wanted to talk to her, but Chase was also here.

Zark looked at Chase and then lowered his eyes.

Chase nodded to Ashley.”You’re here.”

Sam called out, Mommy…”

Ashley replied,”Mmm.”

Zark and Ethan still had work, so they didn’t stay long. After saying goodbye to Sam and glancing at Ashley, they left. Sam’s condition wasn’t serious; it was enough for Ashley to stay by his side. She expected Chase to leave with them, but he stayed, working while keeping Sam company. Ashley said nothing.

That afternoon, after Sam fell asleep, Ashley rested for a while. When she woke, she saw the housekeeper. She heard Chase, who was typing on his keyboard, say to the housekeeper, “My wife’s awake. Take the tonic to her.”

The housekeeper smiled and approached Ashley with a warming pot.”Mr. Sterling had this tonic prepared for you. Please have some.”

Ashley, still drowsy, frowned slightly after hearing that. She could understand why the housekeeper still called her Mrs. Sterling, but why did Chase call her his wife?? What was he playing at?
