Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 22

Chapter 22

Noah’s voice shook, desperate. That dream… On the plane, I had this dream. We fake-married, lived a whole life. And seeing you so broken at the end? That’s when it hit me how badly I messed up. I’ve finally seen Lila’s true colors, Ella. Please, believe me? I genuinely want to-”

“I won’t forgive you.”

I didn’t wait for him to finish. I turned, took a step back, and dodged the flowers he held out.

“You’ve hurt me enough, Noah. I want nothing to do with you. Just go. Don’t ever come looking for me again.”

With that, I turned and walked away, not looking back.

Noah stood rooted. The flowers dropped from his hand, petals scattering, like his shattered heart.

But he didn’t give up. Instead, his resolve only hardened.

No matter how much I hated him now, he would stay by my side and make amends, little by little.

From that day on, Noah was at the Medical University gate, waiting for me. Every. Single. Day.

I’d go to the library in the morning, he’d be waiting by the door. Lunch at the cafeteria, he’d trail me from afar.

Even at night, when I went back to my dorm, he’d stand downstairs. He wouldn’t leave until my light flickered on.

I totally ignored him. Didn’t matter how Noah tried to get my attention, I wouldn’t say a word. One day, my roommate finally couldn’t hold it in. “Ella, who’s that guy waiting downstairs for you every day? He’s been tailing you for, like, days.”

I was busy organizing my surgery notes, didn’t even bother looking up. “Nobody important,” I said.

Noah, who’d just arrived to find me, heard every word. He stood by the dorm door, his heart feeling like a sledgehammer had just smashed it. The pain ripped through him, making it hard to breathe.

He knew he’d messed up badly, knew he’d hurt me beyond repair. But hearing me dismiss him as ‘nobody important? That still made his eyes well up.

Days blurred into weeks. Soon enough, it was the final day of the Practical Surgery Competition.

Dressed in my scrubs, I flawlessly ran through all the steps – suturing, stopping bleeding – with such precise, fluid movements. The judges were seriously impressed.

The moment the host announced I’d won first place, the whole room burst into applause.

Eli walked right up, a genuine smile on his face. “Ella, congrats! You totally aced it! I knew you had it in you.”

Thanks, Eli. Seeing him, a real smile finally broke through- one I hadn’t felt in ages. I took the flowers, hugging them close. “Seriously, couldn’t have done it without you helping me organize all my notes these past few weeks.”

We walked out of the competition hall side by side, ready to celebrate, when Noah’s voice suddenly cut through from behind us. “Ella!”

Noah quickly strode over. He saw Eli and me, laughing and talking easily, and a surge of jealousy instantly hit him.
