Chapter 21
The investigation dragged on for days.
Noah’s punishment finally ended.
His fingers trembled just a little as he boarded the plane, luggage in hand.
The second his suspension was lifted, Noah booked the earliest flight to her Medical University.
His only reason? To see her.
As the plane cut through the clouds, sleepiness started to creep in.
Noah leaned back in his seat, closed his eyes, and quickly drifted off.

The dream was so clear. Too clear. He was there, with her, standing outside the Registry Office, both in wedding clothes. The fake marriage certificate in his hand burned, scorching his palm, making him sick with panic.
In the dream, he watched her. From a green Medical University student to a fierce, independent surgeon owning her craft at the hospital.
He watched her cook him meals, her devotion in every dish. Watched her stay by his bedside, a constant presence when he was sick.
Then, he watched the light in her eyes flicker, then dim, slowly, as his own life faded away.
It wasn’t until he was in the hospital bed, his breath fading fast, his soul suddenly floating above him, that he saw me sitting by his side, gripping his cold hand. Tears were pouring down my face.
I took the Death Certificate to handle the paperwork. The clerk frowned, looking at the file. “The system shows Mr. Bennett’s Marriage Application Form lists the spouse’s name as… Lila. Only she is authorized to handle this.”
I just froze. For a long moment, I couldn’t speak. The tears just fell harder, faster.
Noah floated right beside me, wanting to hold me but unable to touch a thing. His heart felt like it was being ripped apart.
He suddenly remembered then, how he’d faked that Marriage Application Form, all for Lila.
He felt like the biggest piece of shit.
Ella, this is all my fault. I’m so sorry, he wanted to scream.
He wanted to call my name, but no sound came out. He could only watch me, standing all alone in that hallway.
“Sir, the plane is about to land.”
The flight attendant’s voice jolted Noah awake. He shot upright, cold sweat slicking his forehead, heart hammering in his chest. Outside, the sky was just barely tinged with dawn. The dream felt so real, like it happened just yesterday. That crushing, helpless regret still choked him.
He pulled a photo from a secret compartment in his wallet. It was the only picture he had with Ella.
Right now, Noah had just one thought.
This time, he wouldn’t miss her. He wouldn’t let her suffer.
After the plane landed, Noah bought a bouquet, got directions to the Medical University, and rushed over.
As he signed in at the guard’s desk, he spotted her immediately, walking out of a lecture hall. She was laughing and chatting with a few roommates, sunlight catching her, dazzling, impossible to look away.
‘Ella!”
Noah hurried toward her, a hint of nervous tension in his voice.
