Ashley’s Story: Chapter 1

Ill agree to the divorce and leave you all the assets. I just want custody of our child.”

Chase Sterling was firmly convinced that by doing this, Ashley would give up on the divorce, because she couldn’t bear to be parted from her biological

son.

But he was wrong.

Ashley, taking their son’s small hand, walked right up to him and his “beloved,” Tanya Mond.

“I don’t want Sam anymore. If you want him, he’s yours,” Ashley said, her voice flat, devoid of emotion. Then, without hesitation, she signed the divorce

papers.

Sam really resembled his father. They even loved the same woman.

For years, Ashley had ached, wondering why that woman couldn’t be her. Now she felt, if they didn’t love her, then fine.

Seven years had passed. It was time to move on.

After the divorce, Ashley booked a flight back to her hometown.

Her phone, her ID card, and bank card with little remaining balance were all she had left after all these years.

Maria, the housekeeper, called her, saying she had some belongings still left behind.

“Just throw them all away,” Ashley said, her voice tight. Maria hesitated, adding, “Sam insists on seeing his mother.”

“He’ll have a new mommy soon, the very one he’s always dreamed of having.” A heavy silence hung in the air before Ashley spoke again. As the plane prepared for takeoff, she spoke into the phone, her voice barely a whisper, “Tell him not to worry. I will never bother him again, for as long as I live.”

After uttering those last words, she shut down her phone and swapped the SIM card.

From that moment on, this city had not the slightest connection to her anymore.

Ashley and Chase had been secretly married for seven years, estranged for just as long.

On Ashley’s birthday, brimming with hope, she’d rushed to her husband and son, expecting a joyous family reunion. Instead, she found an empty

house.

Chase’s phone was off.

His secretary informed her he’d gone to pick up Sam.

Ashley obediently waited at home for them, even instructing the chef to prepare extra dishes.

This time she came to LA, besides desperately wanting to see her son and Chase, it was in the hope that their family of three could properly share a meal together on this special day.

That was her birthday wish this year,

Yet, minute by minute passed, and neither the father nor son returned.

Anxiety gnawed at her. Chase’s phone remained stubbornly switched off.

Just as she grabbed her coat preparing to go out and look for them, someone anonymously sent her a video.

A chic restaurant, candlelight flickering.

Chase, impeccably dressed in a black suit, sat next to Sam.

Across from them was Tanya, Chase’s “beloved,” the woman Ashley knew all too well. It was a scene of manufactured happiness.

Sam, beaming, presented a handmade birthday gift to Tanya, cheerfully wishing her a happy birthday.

Chase laughed, serving them both, his gaze constantly lingering on Tanya, as if she were the only person in the room.

In the video, Tanya asked Sam, “Who’s better, Aunt Tanya or Mommy?”

Without hesitation, Sam replied, “Aunt Tanya! Mommy’s mean to you!” He snuggled into Tanya’s arms, clinging to her. “Aunt Tanya, Daddy and I like you better. Can you be my mommy?”
