Chapter 17
Kelly nodded.
Thank you, Kelly. Ashley smiled at Sam.”What should you do?”
Sam said to Kelly, I’m sorry.”
Kelly shyly said, “It’s okay…”
Ashley was relieved. She took them to the classroom. The teacher took Kelly. Ashley knelt beside Sam.”Alright, you should go to class. Don’t be afraid.”
Sam wasn’t shy or afraid. He didn’t care what others thought. He just didn’t want Ashley to leave. He hugged her, saying, “Mom…”
“Yes?”
“I…” He wanted to say that he missed her cooking, but he thought of Tanya’s race. His eyes flickered. “Nothing.” He could eat Mom’s cooking anytime, but Tanya’s race wasn’t often. He chose Tanya.
Okay, go ahead. Don’t keep the teacher waiting.”
“Okay.”
He let her go. Before walking into the class, he looked back.”Call me at lunch.”
“Okay.”
He went into the classroom. Ashley watched him give his self-introduction, then left for work.
At the office, she didn’t see Chase. Alex, on the other hand, introduced someone to her.”This is Sherry, your replacement.”
Sherry was beautiful, dressed in designer clothes. She looked at Ashley, then extended her hand.”Nice to meet you, Ashley.”
Ashley shook her hand. “Nice to meet you.”
I graduated from PA University this June. What about you, Ashley?”
She graduated this year? That meant she had little work experience. Perhaps there was something else about her.
Ashley didn’t answer that.”We have a meeting now. Let’s focus on work.”
Sherry said, ‘Oh, right!”
On the way to the meeting, Sherry whispered, “I heard Mr. Sterling was hot. Is it true?”
Ashley answered, “Yes,”
Sherry was a bit excited.”I can’t wait to meet him! But Justin said he wouldn’t be here today…”
Ashley didn’t know that. Chase didn’t come to the company every day. At lunch, Sherry took her to the cafeteria. Ashley called Sam,
Sherry teased her.”Your boyfriend?”
“My son.”
“You’re married?”
“Yes.”
Sam was video calling Tanya. Chase was there too.
Sam pouted. “You two are having lunch without me! Bad guys!”
“You have school, don’t you? I’ll pick you up later, and we’ll have dinner together,”
“Okay.”
Sam looked at Chase, who was serving Tanya food. He asked Sam, “What do you want for dinner? I’ll tell the chef.” There was a reason Chase was captivated by her.
Sam happily listed his favorite foods. Chase listened. Tanya praised Sam’s outfit.
“Really? You think they look cool”
Tanya laughed. “Yes. How was school? Did you get along with your classmates?”
They chatted happily. Chase ate quietly. The waitress thought they were a family and envied Tanya. Then, Sam saw Ashley’s video call.
The video call was scheduled this morning, but Sam was enjoying his chat with Tanya and didn’t want to answer it.
He’d been upset seeing Ashley hug another child this morning, but his teacher reassured him that all parents loved their children the most.
This made him feel better.
Seeing Sam didn’t answer, Ashley worried and called the teacher. The teacher was in the rest area. Laughing, she explained, Sam is fine; he’s video chatting with his dad and a woman I don’t know… I’ll tell him you called.”
Ashley knew it was Tanya. Chase was probably having dinner with her.
“It’s okay, don’t disturb them.”
