Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 39

Chapter 16

Thinking of Tanya’s race tonight, and seeing her again, Sam cheered up. He checked his phone, then frowned. Tanya usually replied quickly, but she hadn’t answered. Was she angry? He texted her again: Aunt Tanya, what’s wrong? Are you mad? You know I don’t want Mom to take me to school; I like you better. Don’t be mad, okay?

Tanya still didn’t reply. Ashley came to find him.”Sam? Are you ready? Let’s go downstairs for breakfast.”

Sam was anxious. He snapped. “I know! Why do you always talk so much? It’s annoying!” He grabbed his backpack and went downstairs. Ashley followed him silently, noticing he was wearing something she hadn’t seen before.

Since he’d been in LA with Chase, his style changed.

He was influenced by Tanya, who excelled in skateboarding, rock climbing, and paragliding.

Sam admired her and copied her style.

Ashley was sad Sam was so close to Tanya, but she didn’t say anything. She even bought him clothes according to his new tastes, but he only wore clothes Tanya picked for him.

Seeing his outfit, she understood everything.

She acted as if she didn’t notice and went downstairs. Yonnie and the others were still asleep, but Emily was awake.

“You’re up early!”

Ashley smiled.”Good morning, Grandma.”

Sam mumbled,”Good morning, Great-Grandma.”

Emily asked, “Sam, are you upset?”

He didn’t answer. The butler, who’d heard Ashley knocking, said, “Probably because he was woken up.”

Emily smiled and asked, “Where’s Chase? Still asleep?”

Ashley said calmly, “Chase went out last night.”

Emily’s face fell.

She guessed what had happened but didn’t say anything in front of Sam.

At breakfast, Sam went upstairs to get his stuff. Ashley waited downstairs.

His phone buzzed; it was a message from “Sweetest Tanya”. Ashley paused. She always respected his privacy; she’d never snooped. But seeing the notification, she thought for a while and then took his phone.

She saw that Sam messaged Tanya every morning and they chatted extensively. Hearing the elevator, she put the phone back.

Sam saw Tanya’s reply-she didn’t text back because she was still asleep, and she missed him too. He beamed. Ashley looked back and immediately knew what was going on.

In the car, Sam chatted with Tanya, occasionally checking if Ashley was watching him. Luckily, she focused on driving. After half an hour, he stopped chatting.

“Mom, are you free this afternoon?”

“What’s the matter?”

Just answer me yes or no.” Sam didn’t tell her what the matter was.

I’m busy this afternoon. What’s going on?”

Sam smiled. Nothing.” Mom wouldn’t pick him up, so he could see Tanya after school!

At school, Ashley talked with Sam’s teacher, who then took them to his classroom. A sweet voice called, Ashley!”

Ashley froze.

A little girl ran into her arms. Ashley recognized her: Kelly, the girl she’d saved from a dog.

Kelly was adorable. Ashley said, “Kelly, are you at this school too?”

Before Ashley could speak, Sam pushed Kelly.

Ashley caught the falling child. “Kelly, are you okay?”

Kelly cried, “Why did you push me…”

Sam didn’t like the girl in Ashley’s arms. He scowled. “You’re ugly and disgusting!”

Kelly was cute and adorable. No one had ever called her ugly or disgusting. This was the first time. Kelly cried, clinging to Ashley.

Ashley hugged her.”You’re not disgusting; you’re pretty and cute. Don’t you think so?”

Kelly calmed down. Seeing Ashley hugging and praising Kelly, Sam’s eyes reddened.”I don’t like you anymore! I don’t want you as my mom!” He tried to

run away.
