Chapter 409
Chase explained his visit to Tim. After a quick chat, he and Tanya left.
Ashley just watched, not saying a single word the entire time.
Mary’s injuries weren’t life-threatening. But her arm? Shattered. She’d need two days of observation before they could even schedule surgery.
Once they saw Mary was mostly okay, and Chase had even gotten her the best orthopedic team, the Holdens could finally breathe easy.
Mary wasn’t waking up for a while. Mark spoke up. “Chase, thank you for everything today. It’s getting late, and Tanya mentioned you have a flight to catch tomorrow. Maybe you should head back and rest?”
Chase didn’t argue.”Okay, I’ll go then.”
Mark probably had something to say to Chase. He added, Chase, I’ll see you out.”
Chase probably knew what he was getting at. He just smiled. “Appreciate it,” he said.
After Mark and Chase left, Ruby Mond couldn’t help but grin.”Chase is incredible to Tanya and our whole family, truly.”
Catherine nodded, agreeing instantly.”Right? Honestly, it’s all because of Tanya.”
Tanya heard that. A faint, forced smile touched her lips, but she stayed silent.
Chase still seemed to treat her the same. But he was clearly way more invested in Ashley now.
How long would Chase keep this up? She had no clue.
Ashley popped into Tanya’s head, triggering another thought. A big one.
She and Chase had dipped early from the Eternal gala. Back then, Ashley being William’s student and an Eternal founder? That hadn’t been public
news.
Now the Eternal gala was long over. What happened?
She immediately grabbed her phone. Time to hit the internet for updates.
She scrolled online. Found it. After she and Chase left, Ashley did speak on behalf of Eternal. But about her being William’s student or a co-founder?
Not a single word.
A huge weight lifted off her chest.
Figuring Mary was totally fine, the Holdens all chilled out. Catherine, naturally, went straight for her phone to scroll.
She quickly scrolled past some Eternal updates too.
But unlike Tanya, Catherine saw red. Ashley was up on stage, not Tim, speaking for Eternal. And then William’s wife, Riley a massive name in medicine was practically hugging Ashley, looking super chummy. Catherine’s face went green with pure, unadulterated fury.
She gritted her teeth. Ashley? What the hell gives her the right?!”
The rest of the Holdens, drawn by her outburst, looked up.”What’s wrong now?” someone asked.
“Ashley! She spoke for Eternal at the banquet! Going on and on, thanking guests, blathering a bunch of crap. She acted like she was Mrs. Eternal herself, the nerve!”
The Holdens couldn’t get into the Eternal banquet, but they’d been keeping a close eye on it, obviously.
After watching Ashley’s speech, then seeing William and his wife fawning over Ashley in the video, and hearing how impressed Mr. and Mrs. Reed, the corporate titan Mr. Foster, and political heavyweight David all were with her at the Eternal gala, their expressions soured.
Catherine fumed. The more she watched, the angrier she got.”Mr. Foster and those guys actually want to pay Ashley serious cash to run things at their company?” she snapped. “What kind of messed-up judgment is that? Do they seriously believe Ashley has that kind of skill?”
Vivian and the others didn’t buy it. They didn’t think Ashley was that talented, either.
And they definitely hadn’t expected Tim to prioritize Ashley so much. On Eternal’s biggest night, he actually let her speak for the company.
Seeing Ashley hogging the spotlight, Vivian’s gaze hardened. But then, a thought seemed to strike her, and she quickly smoothed her expression. “Nothing’s set in stone until it’s final,” she said, her voice flat.”Ashley might be basking in glory now, but…”
That glory won’t last forever.
She didn’t finish her thought, but everyone else
got it.
Hearing that, the Holdens’ mood finally lifted.
Catherine scoffed, “Exactly. Who knows, Tim might dump that bitch before long!”
