Chapter 410
It had been days since Ashley replied to Chase’s message. He still hadn’t answered her back.
Sam, on the other hand, had hit her up twice.
Friday night, Ashley took Sam out.
They’d had dinner, finished their Scavenger Hunt. Sam wanted bubble tea. Ashley was just about to hand her order over when she spotted Chase.
And he was walking right towards her and Sam.
Ashley froze.
Chase caught her eye, a faint smile playing on his handsome face.
Sam saw him too, but there was zero surprise on his face. Like he’d known he was coming all along.
He waved at Chase, beaming.”Dad, over here!”
The second he reached them, Sam shook his bubble tea.”Dad, wanna sip?”
Chase’s big hand ruffled his hair.”Nah, I’m good.”
Sam just went,”Oh,” and happily went back to his drink.
Chase’s eyes shifted back to Ashley.”Just landed.”
Ashley:”…”
With Sam right there, Ashley just gave a quick ‘Mm-hmm,’ then looked away. She turned to Sam.”Sam, it’s getting kinda late, maybe we should ”
“Mom! Someone’s playing drums over there!”
The weather was great today, so a lot of people from the neighborhood were out, strolling and checking out the shops.
The plaza was packed. Sam wasn’t just talking about any drums; it was actually a drum lesson studio that had hauled a whole kit out there. They were totally inviting any kid who wanted to jam to come up and show off.
Kids these days, man, they’re fearless. One after another, seven and eight-year-olds hopped up there, banging away like little pros. With that upbeat, high-energy backing track, they totally drew a crowd.
Sam had never played drums before, but seeing kids his age perform, he thought it was super cool. He darted into the crowd and watched from the side.
There were a lot of people around, and Ashley worried he’d get lost, so she quickly followed.
Chase, however, wasn’t in a hurry. He watched them, then slowly followed, eventually standing right next to Ashley.
Ashley felt him close, but said nothing.
Sam, holding her hand, was totally engrossed. Ashley watched these little kids perform in front of so many people without a hint of stage fright. Listening to the upbeat music, she found it pretty entertaining too.
Ashley was totally absorbed, when a kid accidentally bumped into her. She stumbled sideways, and her bubble tea almost spilled all over her.
Chase wrapped an arm around her, pulling her sideways, steadying her and keeping her from falling.
Ashley let out a breath. Once steady, she looked at Chase and said, “…Thanks.”
Chase smiled, didn’t say anything, and released his hand from her waist.
