Chapter 27
Everyone was captivated by Ashley’s beauty. Someone excitedly asked, “Mr. Reed, is this beautiful woman our new colleague?”
You’re well-informed,” Tim laughed, introducing Ashley.”She’s our company’s…”
Andy interrupted. “Mr. Reed, you didn’t hire Tanya because of her?”
Tim paused, nodding. “Yes. Il explain later…”

Before he could finish, Andy looked at Ashley.”My juniorTanya just got her PhD from a top-ten university at 24. Since you replaced her, you must be even better, huh?”
Tanya had said Tim didn’t hire her due to personal reasons. Andy saw Ashley and Tim hugging downstairs and he believed that Ashley had connections.
Even in their company, Tanya’s background was outstanding. He didn’t think Ashley was better.
He sneered.”But you look so young. I was wondering if you got your PhD.”
Tim wanted to explain later, as it involved Ashley and Tanya’s conflict. But Andy was challenging him. He frowned.”Andy…”
Andy thought Tim was covering for Ashley, interrupting loudly, “Mr. Reed, I’m talking to her.” He stared at Ashley.”It’s just a question about education.
Is it that hard to answer? Didn’t you get your PhD? Or is your university not ranked highly enough?”
Ashley didn’t find it hard to answer. She said calmly, “I haven’t gotten my PhD, but…”
Andy laughed.
“But what? What do you want to say? That even without a PhD, you are better than us? What gives you that illusion? Is it because you’re pretty and every man loves you?”
Tim was furious.”Andy!” Reasonable doubt was fine, but Andy was insulting Ashley!
Andy took off his ID badge.”I quit.”
“You!” Tim didn’t see that coming.
“Mr. Reed, I thought you valued talent and were impartial. I was wrong.”
He left. Tim was angry too. He said, “Calm down. Come back when you’ve thought it all through.”
‘No, I won’t return to Eternal!” Andy left.
Ashley valued talent too. She looked at Tim. He shook his head, asking her to wait. Andy was skilled; he didn’t want to lose him.
Tim had noticed Andy’s feelings for Tanya. It was his personal matter, but his emotional outburst and judgment of Ashley were excessive. Their core technology involved the government and they had signed confidentiality agreements; Ashley’s identity couldn’t be revealed. Andy’s impulsiveness and feelings for Tanya meant that even if he knew about Ashley’s ability, he might not accept her, because he thought Tanya could do better. Andy would be overshadowed by Ashley, and this could be exploited.
Ashley was relieved that Tim backed her up. Tim cleared his throat and addressed everyone,”Ashley may not have a PhD, but her skills are exceptional. I promise.”
The others exchanged glances. They had heard about Tim’s relationship with Ashley, but didn’t know the details. A similar incident happened last year. A high-ranking executive got his girlfriend into this company. She claimed to be a graduate student at one of the top universities but she didn’t even know basic terms. They doubted if she had attended university.
Now, Tim fired a highly qualified talent for Ashley. Andy’s anger was understandable. Many thought Tim was biased.
