They arrived at the private room; Tanya and Sam were already there. Tanya asked, “What’s so funny?”

Ethan smiled. “Nothing, just met someone interesting.”

After dinner, Chase and Sam went home. Sam ran upstairs. “Mommy! Mommy!”

The butler came out from the kitchen. “Mrs. Sterling isn’t back yet.”

“What? Sam was disappointed. “Why is Mom always so busy?”

Seeing Chase standing still, the butler asked, “Mr. Sterling?”

Chase shook his head.”Nothing.” He went upstairs. That night, Chase realized Ashley hadn’t returned.

The next morning, Sam woke up, waiting for Ashley’s breakfast. Seeing it wasn’t hers, he frowned.”Didn’t Mom make breakfast?”

“Mrs. Sterling isn’t home.”

Sam found it strange. “Where is she? Did she go to Grandma’s house again?”

“Probably?” The butler wasn’t sure.

Sam looked at Chase.”Dad…”

Chase calmly said, “Ask her yourself.”

Ashley went to work after breakfast. Tim was about to discuss the new product with her when his phone rang.

The caller said, “Did your company offend the Sterling family?”

“What?” Tim was stunned, looking at Ashley and putting the call on speakerphone.

“Someone from the Sterling family tried to pick on you, and we stopped them.”

Ashley froze, clenching her fists. After the banquet, Chase hadn’t confronted her about Tanya. She’d thought he wasn’t pursuing it. It turned out she was wrong. He was showing her the consequences of messing with Tanya!

Tim understood. He patted Ashley’s hand.”Don’t worry, we’re working closely with the government; they can’t screw with us.”

Tim looked worried. Will they have trouble with your family?”

Ashley didn’t want to go there. She rubbed her temples. Before she could speak, Sam said, “Dad’s on a business trip. I’m bored. Come back now!” Chase was on a business trip? Ashley paused. She could ignore Chase, but she was still responsible for Sam until he was 18.

“Okay, I’ll be back soon.”

That night, Ashley made sweet and sour pork ribs and soup for Sam. She stayed for two days. On Friday, Amanda called, asking them to have dinner at

her house.

Ashley and Sam went there. Only Amanda was home; the others were at work or school. Amanda was delighted to see Sam. They stayed overnight.

The next morning, Ashley made dumplings. Amanda sighed, remembering Ashley never did housework before her marriage.

Ashley smiled. “Cooking is calming. I enjoy it.”

Ashley looked healthier, Amanda felt relieved. After making dumplings and chatting, Ashley went upstairs. Sam was getting up. Ashley was putting away his pajamas when his phone buzzed-it was Tanya.

“Are you up? I’ll be back this afternoon. Dinner together? I’ll take you out tomorrow!”
