Chapter 46
Ashley blushed, feeling really embarrassed. She pulled her robe closed. Zark’s eyes darkened; he looked away. The nanny was embarrassed too. Luckily, no one else was around. She helped Ashley adjust her robe. Ashley was conservative and had never exposed herself like this in front of another man, especially he was Chase’s friend.
She said with uneasiness, I have to go.”
Zark apologized. “Sorry.”
Betty realized she’d done something wrong and cried, “Auntie, I’m sorry…”
Ashley knew it wasn’t intentional, “It’s okay. I know you didn’t mean to.” She smiled, waved goodbye, and entered the elevator.
Zark watched the elevator close, then said to Betty, “Don’t do something like that again, okay?”
Betty nodded.”Okay…”
Ashley left around 4 pm to go to Emily’s place for dinner. Tim took her to the parking lot and said, “Drive carefully.”
“Okay.”
A car approached. Betty peeked out the window, waving.”Auntie, goodbye.”
Ashley smiled faintly, “Goodbye, Betty.” Seeing Zark looking at her, she nodded. He nodded and glanced at Tim before looking away.
Watching his car leave, Tim said,”I think Zark was interrogating me with his eyes.”
Ashley didn’t care.”Really? Why would he?”
Tim didn’t know.”Maybe he thought we were cheating, so he was warning me as Chase’s friend?”
Ashley’s smile faded.”No way.” Zark and Tanya were close. He wanted Chase and Tanya together. He’d be happy if she had an affair with someone else, so he wouldn’t worry about that.
Ashley drove to the Sterling residence; it was dark. Only Emily and the maids were there. Seeing Ashley, Emily asked, “Where’s Sam?”
Chase seldom came with Ashley, so Emily wouldn’t ask about him. But Sam was different.
Since Ashley’s ankle healed, Sam hadn’t contacted her. But it was fine. Ashley didn’t care where Chase and Sam were.
She smiled. They’ll be here soon.” They might not even come.
Emily thought she knew their plans. Ashley chatted with her until almost 7:30 pm; Chase and Sam hadn’t arrived.
Emily frowned. “It’s late. Where are they?” She remembered Chase’s absence at the hot spring resort. She told Ashley, “Ashley, call them.”
Ashley called Chase. He answered without asking her why.”Twenty minutes.”
Before Ashley could speak, Sam said, “Goodbye, Aunt Tanya.”
Ashley lowered her eyes. They were with Tanya. She heard Tanya say softly to Chase, “I’m going upstairs now.”
Chase’s tone was soft. Hmm.”
Then, he asked Ashley coldly,”Anything else?”
“No.” Ashley was about to hang up, but he did it first.
