Chapter 61
Ashley pretended not to notice, ruffling his hair. Go ahead. I need to take care of some messages.” Without looking at Chase or Ethan, she left.
–
Seeing Ashley’s cool demeanor – no anxiety or worry about Tanya’s arrival as in the past – Ethan leaned closer to Chase. “What’s going on? Chase remained impassive. “Did you come alone?”
“Of course not. A hot spring trip is way more fun with company! I brought my…” He paused, glancing sideways. “Wait, you’re changing the subject.”
Chase didn’t deny it. Your company arrived.”
A tall, stunning woman in a barely-there bikini, her bathrobe casually open, approached them.
Ashley returned to her room, changed into regular clothes, sat at the small round table, opened her laptop, and delved into the products showcased at the recent expo. After half an hour, she had an idea. She called Tim.”Are you free?”
I’m a costume party. What’s up?”
She explained her idea.
Tim’s voice was serious yet excited. “Hold on, I’m going home now.”
“Okay.”
She hung up and focused on her work. After a while, she heard voices downstairs. It was probably Zark and Tanya. She rose and closed the window.
Ashley was hungry and called room service. Her order was quickly processed. As the staff member was heading towards the elevator with her food, he bumped into Chase and the others.
Ethan asked, “Who ordered this…”
“It’s Mrs. Sterling,” the staff member replied, referring to Ashley.
They didn’t delay him. But once he was gone, Ethan chuckled. Looks like we don’t need to call her for lunch.”
Chase said calmly, “Let’s call her anyway.”
Tanya was taken aback, her lips pressed together as she looked at Chase. Zark and Ethan were also surprised. Ethan laughed. “True. Emily specifically told you to take care of her. If we don’t invite her, she’s so gonna flip.” The resort belonged to the Sterling family; it was possible Emily had eyes and ears everywhere.
Tanya relaxed her lips. She’d thought Emily’s matchmaking had actually changed something… but now she realized she’d been overthinking. Zark also looked away.
Sam returned. Chase ruffled his head.”Go upstairs and tell Mom to come down for lunch.”
Sam hesitated. Tell Mom to eat with us?”
‘Yes.’
He frowned, glancing at Tanya. He didn’t want his mom to join them; if she did, she’d target Tanya, ruining everyone’s mood.
Tanya smiled gently. Go ahead.”
Sam sighed before going upstairs.
Ashley was already eating when Sam rang the doorbell. Seeing Sam on the monitor, Ashley put down her utensils and opened the door.”Sam?”
Sam bit his lip. “Mom, Dad said to ask you to come down for dinner.”
Ashley refused. Thank you, but I’m already eating.”
Sam breathed a sigh of relief.”Okay, should I tell Dad that?”
Ashley saw his desire to join them. “Yes.”
Sam smiled, turning to leave. Then, feeling guilty, he turned back. “Mom, are you okay being alone? Maybe I should stay with you. There were so many people downstairs, yet his mother was alone in the room. Though Sam said that, Ashley could get the idea that he preferred to be downstairs with
