Chapter 62

Tanya, however, offered a subtle smile. She knew Ashley wouldn’t dare join them. No one here genuinely welcomed her. If she did come down, she’d only face ridicule and exclusion. It was better to stay upstairs, a recluse in her own room.

Chase said, “Okay, I see.” He didn’t push it, saying to the others, “Let’s eat.”

Tanya’s smile widened as she gracefully settled beside Chase.

Upstairs, after dinner, Ashley continued working.

Tim arrived home. Ashley had more ideas, and after he saw what she’d sent, he exploded. “Damn! You’re a genius, Ashley! I knew you could do it!”

Before she could respond, he groaned in self-reproach, Seven years! If you hadn’t gotten married, our company would have been world-famous!”

Ashley moved her phone away; his outburst was a bit much.

Tim realized he’d struck a nerve. He cleared his throat and got to the point. A project of this scale needed more than two people. He immediately contacted Charlie and the others. Those guys didn’t join Eternal just for a paycheck, they genuinely wanted to learn something.

Tim told them about Ashley’s findings. While they hadn’t grasped the core concepts immediately, they were excited about the progress. They happily offered to join them.

It would be better to discuss this at the office, but Ashley was a two-hour drive away. Inspiration couldn’t be paused; if they stopped, they might lose it. They decided on a video call.

Tim asked Ashley, “You’re alone in your room? What about your husband and the others?”

I don’t know, probably having lunch,” Ashley replied indifferently.

Just him and your son?”

Tanya and Ethan are there too.”

And they leave you alone in your room?”

They asked me to join them. I refused.”

“Well, that’s something. At least Chase’s not a 100% jerk.”

Ashley didn’t think so. Like Ethan, she thought Chase was just doing this because he didn’t want Emily nagging him. Besides, even if she went downstairs, everyone was on Tanya’s side. They weren’t worried about Tanya being “bullied”, so they didn’t mind her joining them for lunch.

Ashley and Tim worked for four hours straight. It was getting close to dinner again; they decided to take a break, resuming in two hours.

Ashley compiled her notes, closed her laptop, and decided to go outside for some fresh air. It’d clear her head and she could pick some apples for Tim and the others.

The resort was vast. She didn’t know where Chase and the others were.

She didn’t see them when she went downstairs. It wasn’t completely dark yet.

She asked two staff members to help her pick apples.

The mountain air was chilly, but she was dressed warmly. After a while, she felt refreshed. They quickly filled three boxes with apples. Instead of going down immediately, she sat to watch the sunset,

She heard footsteps and a child’s voice.

She turned and saw Zark.

He was surprised to see her, too.

A child’s voice rang out, “It’s Auntie!”

Zark was video-chatting with Betty, showing her the apple trees.

He planned to pick some for her tomorrow, and he hadn’t expected to run into Ashley here.
