Wake Up Leave The Liar novel Chapter 92

Chapter 69

As Ashley thought this, the auction began, and the room fell silent. Ashley had already reviewed the catalog and had her eye on an emerald jewelry set and a renowned painting. Which one she’d bid on would depend on the situation.

The bidding started quickly. Ashley was focused, only raising her paddle for items she wanted. Chase and Tanya hadn’t bid yet.

After a while, Ashley and Cindy noticed Tanya raise her paddle for a diamond bracelet, a designer piece clearly meant for a younger woman. It was undoubtedly for Tanya.

The starting bid was $150,000. Tanya bid $300,000, then another bid took it to $400,000. Tanya and Chase conferred, and she bid again, clearly

audible in the hall.”$800,000.”

The room buzzed. The bracelet was nice, but not worth $800,000;$400,000 was already high. But Tanya seemed to love it, and Chase, clearly not wanting anyone to outbid her, had just offered $800,000. Everyone was shocked by his extravagance and his affection for Tanya.

As expected, no one else bid. Tanya got the bracelet.

Cindy was envious. “My eyes hurt.”

Before Ashley could speak, the next item was presented an antique vase. Tanya bid again. The starting price was $500,000.

Others were bidding in increments of $50,000 or $100,000. Tanya, however, opened with $1 million. The number of bidders dwindled, but there were plenty of wealthy people present. A man called out, “$1.5 million.”

Ashley looked over. He was young and handsome.

That’s Jeffery Cooper,” Cindy whispered.

Ashley nodded. Tanya hesitated, looking at Chase. Ashley realized the vase was for Tanya again. Then she remembered that Tanya’s grandma loved antiques; this was likely for her.

Chase nodded. Tanya bid,”$2.5 million.”

Jeffery continued, “$3 million.”

Tanya hesitated, consulting Chase, seeming to indicate she didn’t want it anymore. He shook his head.

Tanya bid again,”$4 million.”

$5 million. Jeffery looked towards Chase with a smile.

Tanya frowned, telling Chase, “Maybe… we should give up on it?”$5 million was excessive.

Chase smiled. “It’s fine. Didn’t you say your grandmother liked it? Go on.”

Tanya’s heart fluttered at his smile. She bid again,”$6 million.”

Jeffery followed quickly, $7 million.” Then, he said loudly to Chase, “Mr. Sterling, one of my elders loves this vase. Let me have it.”

Chase looked over, smiling politely. “Sorry, Mr. Cooper, My family likes it too.”

Their conversation wasn’t hushed. Ashley and Cindy heard it clearly. The vase was for Mary Holden, but Chase referred to her as ‘my family, showing he regarded Tanya’s family as his family. This starkly contrasted with his attitude towards Ashley’s family.

Tanya bid, $8 million.”
