All that care really hadn’t gone to waste. It was worth it—every bit of it.
When Patricia shifted a little, the blanket slipped off her shoulder. Oliver reached over and gently pulled it back up, tucking her in. “That’s just what family should do for each other.”
She snorted. “If that’s your baseline, your standards are way too high. Look at me and Ruby—we’re doing well if we don’t stab each other.”
Patricia sat up, stretching for her phone on the nightstand. The screen lit up and a new message popped up.
Oliver’s hand slid to her waist, his fingers moving in slow, reassuring circles. “How’s work going? Want me to help you find a professional manager? I’ve got some people in mind.”
Patricia glanced at him, phone in hand. “Really? You already know someone?”
He nodded. “I’ve been keeping an eye out since we were in Toronto. You were always going to take Martin Group back, but it’s not realistic to handle everything on your own. Back then, we were still kind of distant, feelings hadn’t really settled, so I just started planning on my own.”
Patricia’s heart squeezed. “How long have you been planning all this?”
“Since Toronto,” he said quietly.
“So you were preparing in advance? Why didn’t you say anything?”
He hesitated, then admitted, “I wasn’t sure how you’d take it. I didn’t want to hurt your pride or make you feel like I didn’t trust you, so I kept it to myself.”
Sometimes, Patricia couldn’t believe how lucky she was.
Whether it was Oliver, the three kids, Marian, or Jackson, every single one of them played a huge role in her life.
She was never fighting by herself. She was never truly alone.
She was so fortunate. Jason had set up a trust for her before he passed, so she was never left with nothing.
After marrying Oliver, he always paid attention to her, careful with every decision—always thinking things through, making sure he didn’t cross a line or make her uncomfortable, even when he wanted to help.
She was blessed, and she knew it.
Patricia bit her lip, her voice soft and a little shaky as she said, “Thank you.”
He smiled and brushed her cheek. “Silly girl. I’m your husband. This is what I’m supposed to do.”
