You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 606

When Patricia woke up, Oliver was already gone.

She got ready and made her way downstairs.

Marian greeted her with a big smile. “Mr. Padilla’s over in the guesthouse. He’ll be back in a bit.”

“I’ve made some bird’s nest soup for you. Come eat while it’s still hot.”

Patricia sat down in the dining room as Marian brought over the delicate bowl, still smiling. “Mr. Padilla asked me to make this first thing this morning. He said you’ve gotten skinny lately and need to take better care of yourself.”

“I was just telling Johns yesterday that you look thinner, and wondering if Mr. Padilla would blame us when he got home.”

Patricia looked up, surprised. “He complained about you guys?”

Marian laughed, clearly pleased. “That’s a good thing, isn’t it? Means he’s thinking about you. If he says a few words for your sake, I don’t mind at all. Honestly, I feel like a mother-in-law admiring her son-in-law—the more I see of Mr. Padilla, the more I like him. You’re lucky, you know that?”

Marian was never one to hide her feelings. Whatever was on her mind showed right on her face.

Back when Theo was around, she looked like she wanted to blow up his whole family.

But with Oliver, she was a different person entirely.

Patricia smiled and took a sip of the soup.

Before she left the table, she reminded Marian, “Sara’s coming home tonight. Make her favorite dishes, okay? After so long at Golden Bay, she must be craving some real home cooking.”

“Of course,” Marian replied.

“Looking out for each other is what keeps a family close.”

Patricia had just finished her soup when Oliver walked in.

He put his warm, steady hand on her shoulder and gently massaged away the tension.

“We’ve got guests coming for lunch. Remember to go upstairs and change.”

Patricia turned to look at him, surprised.

Guests? And he was just now telling her?

Oliver noticed the question in her eyes and explained quietly, “A few executive managers. I thought they should come up and meet you.”

“Why so last-minute?” Patricia asked as she dabbed foundation on her face at her vanity, glancing at Oliver in the mirror.

Oliver had picked top talent, and the guests already knew a lot about Martin Group’s setup.

The meeting went smoothly. Patricia pointed out a few key positions and handed the HR manager a list of names to start onboarding.

Dinner lasted late into the night, finally wrapping up around nine.

Patricia and Oliver stood together in the yard, watching as everyone drove away.

She forwarded the names and résumés to the HR manager, then looked up at the bright, full moon. For a moment, she felt kind of lost.

“It’s the sixteenth tonight,” she said softly, gazing at the sky. “When you left, it was just a crescent.”

It was such a simple thing to say, but it hit Oliver straight in the heart.

He called her name gently. “Pattie.”

“Yeah?” she replied.

“Look at me.”

As Patricia turned, Oliver reached out, cupped her face in his strong hands, and kissed her hard, like he’d been waiting forever for this moment.
