When something goes wrong, you have to deal with it. No way around it.
"Chelsea!"
"Mr. McKee," Chelsea paused, turning to face him.
Hector didn’t waste time. "Did you know Patricia was pregnant?"
"Not for that long. Why do you ask?"
"You knew and didn't say anything? If their fighting got out of hand and something happened, how do you expect Oliver to face you and your family?"
Chelsea had thought about it, more than once. She knew she should have told someone. She’d even considered pulling Oliver aside and telling him herself. But the truth was, she’d been holding back, trying to see if Patricia really wanted nothing more to do with him. She kept telling herself that if Patricia showed even a little bit of willingness to make things work, she’d say something. But before any of that could happen, everything blew up.
"I wanted to tell him. But Patricia had to be okay with it. If I told him and she found out, got mad, and moved out, wouldn’t that just make everything worse?"
Hector let out a heavy sigh. She wasn’t exactly wrong. Still, at this point…
"Let’s go upstairs first," he said. "Oliver definitely has his flaws, but he really loves Patricia. Now with everything that’s happened, when we go in there, just don't say anything out of line. Pretend you don’t know about the pregnancy."
"Why?"
"Why? Think about it. If you got married one day, and you and your husband were fighting, and then you found out his family helped him hide something huge—like he had someone else on the side—how would you feel? If Oliver finds out you all knew and kept it from him, he’s not going to just let that go. Your dad’s coming back to Riverdale soon. The Padilla family should be his support, not something that drags him down. Just think about it."
"Is Oliver really that petty?" Chelsea mumbled. She knew Hector was just looking out for her, but she couldn’t help herself.
"They’re still watching her."
"When she wakes up, we’ll see how things are. The other hospital has everything ready. They can send a car for her if we need it."
"Thank you," Oliver said, his voice unexpectedly polite.
Hector let out a soft sigh. "Let Chelsea stay here with her. You and I should talk outside for a minute."
As soon as Hector mentioned Chelsea, Oliver finally looked up. His eyes landed on her, sharp and searching. When he saw the way she was watching Patricia, he spoke.
"You knew she was pregnant, didn’t you?"
