Chelsea really wanted to get in on the gossip, but because of her job, she had to fill out a ton of paperwork just to leave the city. By the time her request would even get approved, the whole thing would be old news.
She decided it wasn’t worth it.
Still, she didn’t feel right letting Patricia head home by herself. So that night, Jackson flew back to Golden Bay with Patricia.
Just like Chelsea said, when something happens, you have to deal with it. No amount of family connections or status could change that.
Who said family drama and tearing each other apart was only for people at the bottom?
In the Padilla living room, Oliver looked grim, hunched over his phone while he tried to transfer some data. Roger was helping, crouched in front of the laptop, and after fiddling with it forever, he was only halfway done.
All the family elders were home for once, and the tense atmosphere was so thick no one dared make a sound.
Lydia sat quietly, scrolling through news on her tablet, her lips pursed tight. There was a sharpness in her eyes that didn’t match her age. But with the old patriarch still awake in the next room, she kept her thoughts to herself.
The old man was over ninety. It was sad enough that he had to sit through his children fighting. Lydia couldn’t bring herself to add to it, and she didn’t plan on it, but she was still furious.
Her son was already in his thirties, married, about to become a dad, and the tabloids were still dragging him through the mud.
She put her tablet down on the table. “Just wait. The Brooks family will show up soon.”
“She’s not coming,” Miles said quietly. He hardly ever spoke up during family arguments. He and Aaron had always stayed out of it when it came to the women and kids. They just wanted to keep things from getting so ugly that the brothers couldn’t look each other in the eye.
“She doesn’t have enough leverage. Even if she does come, it won’t do her any good.”
“Stephen’s finally tired of running wild. Tina’s come to me more than once, wanting me to help him get a proper job.”
