Patricia didn’t make it upstairs until three.
Jackson had already left for Riverdale early yesterday morning. He had a noon flight, and since it was the weekend, he called Chelsea to pick him up.
Chelsea’s recent promotion had at least given her one real perk—a guaranteed day off on Sundays. After all her years of grinding, she finally felt what it was like to be the boss, even if just a little.
That morning at nine, Jackson’s call came in while she was sprawled naked in bed. She glanced at the screen, hit silent, and shot him a quick text.
“Yeah?”
Jackson sent back a screenshot of his flight. “Pick me up.”
Chelsea replied with an OK emoji, tossed her phone onto the nightstand, and snuggled deeper into the blankets, stretching lazily. As she moved, the covers bunched up around her.
Just as she was about to flip over, a hand wrapped around her waist and tugged her back. A warm body pressed against her, heat seeping into her skin. She woke up fast, suddenly remembering she wasn’t alone.
A low, sleepy voice sounded behind her. “What time is it?”
“Nine-thirty.” Jackson’s flight was at noon, so she still had some time to lounge.
“Mmm.”
He sounded barely awake. His hand slid under the blankets, grabbed her leg, and pulled it over his waist, adjusting their position.
Chelsea felt what was coming and groaned. “Again?”
Her complaint seemed to wake Hector up. “Can’t handle it?”
“I’m just worried you’ll die from overwork, Mr. McKee. If you drop dead, Oliver will come after me.”
Hector basically kept Pacific Capital running. If he croaked, that load would fall to Oliver, and lately, with Oliver’s wife pregnant, he had zero interest in work.
If she wore Hector, the company’s resident workhorse, into the ground, Oliver would probably kill her.
Hector mimicked her teasing tone. “You don’t think I can handle it, Ms. Lawrence?”
