You Looked Down on Me Once Now You Look Up (Patricia and Oliver) novel Chapter 889

Lunch was pretty simple. Just some veggie and fish ball soup, brown rice, and a small piece of chicken breast. She was eating so clean these days, all thanks to the little one growing in her belly.

“What time do you think you’ll be done?” Oliver asked.

“I’m not sure yet. I’ll text you when I finish. If I get out early, maybe we can check out some baby stores?”

“Yeah, sounds good.”

That afternoon, Oliver dropped Patricia off at the office. As soon as she got to the top floor, she could hear Chelsea’s dramatic wailing from Jackson’s office. Sara’s voice was mixed in too. Patricia was about to stop and figure out what was going on when Jackson’s voice cut through, sounding totally fed up. “Seriously, what is it now? Am I a kindergarten teacher or something? You’ve stopped bothering Mr. Padilla, so now you’ve come to me?”

He honestly sounded like he was at his limit. He’d worked late the night before, barely slept, and had just set up his foldable cot for a quick nap. Before he could even lie down, these two had shown up, complaining so much his head was practically buzzing.

Patricia sneaked a peek through the door and saw Jackson slumped at his desk, hands clamped over his ears while the two women went off. He was literally sitting there, just trying to block them out.

“Patricia!” he called out. “Save me!”

His sudden yell made Patricia’s stomach tense. She instinctively rested her hand on her bump, took a breath, and pushed open the door.

“Chelsea, Sara, Jackson still has work to do this afternoon,” Patricia said.

Chelsea pouted, shooting Patricia a look that was half hurt, half offended. “Fine, then I’ll just…”

“I have work this afternoon too,” Jackson jumped in.

Chelsea looked between them, eyebrows raised. “Wow. So both of you are ditching me.”

“No one’s ditching you. It’s just work hours, okay? Don’t you have to be in the lab today?” Jackson said, exasperated.

“I took the day off.”
