Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2249

Grandma Edith’s expression shifted in an instant. "What exactly are you implying?"

Maggie struggled to keep her face neutral. "Well, if you really have no idea, why don’t you just call Marlon back? I was just making a suggestion, anyway. Now that you have Athena—your real granddaughter—you clearly don’t want to believe a word I say. That’s fine. I’ve said all I needed to say. I’ll be going now."

"Are you blaming me, Maggie?"

Maggie’s lips twitched. She didn’t answer. She simply got up and walked out.

Edith gripped her cane tightly, her eyes turning cold. The housekeeper standing behind her finally spoke up.

"Mrs. Keller, Ms. Olson must still be bitter about the wedding. She was really quite disrespectful to you just now."

Edith took a sip of her tea, her expression unreadable.

"What right does she have to be bitter? I’ve already let her off easy by not holding her accountable for what happened. She only lost a little face. Athena, on the other hand, almost lost her life that year. Maggie’s never shown any remorse. I was right not to let her set foot in this house again."

The housekeeper massaged Edith’s shoulders, offering comfort. "You were right all along, Mrs. Keller. Ms. Olson just doesn’t have what it takes to be part of this family."

Even if Athena’s incident had never come to light, Maggie marrying into the Keller family would have brought nothing but trouble.

Edith’s nerves had been frayed for weeks now, ever since the business with Athena. Maggie’s little reminder had only made her headache worse. Was there something in the past she still didn’t know about?

She immediately called Marlon, but he was already out at sea. There had been a problem with his latest shipment, and he wouldn’t be back for another three days.

"Grandma, I’ll come see you in three days," Marlon said, his voice muffled by static.

Edith had no choice but to hang up, anxiety gnawing at her. With Athena refusing to come home, Edith realized she would have to go to her herself. Only seeing her granddaughter in person would calm her nerves.

Meanwhile, out on the water, Marlon faced a group of men kneeling before him. He wore a smile, seemingly relaxed, but his presence had the men trembling so badly they could barely stay upright.

He picked up a pistol from the table beside him, spinning it idly in his hand as a slow smile crept across his face.

"Go on. Speak."
