Dear Ex-wife Marry Me novel (Maja) novel Chapter 2270

Lindsay thought her brother was joking. After all, Greenfield was miles away from home, and he’d never ventured beyond their small town. He had no idea how to buy a ticket or even catch a bus. She chuckled to herself, assuming he was just being endearingly naive.

“Haven’t I promised I’d visit soon? You need to stay put and watch over the kids, or I’ll be really upset. And if I get upset, I might just decide I don’t want you around anymore.”

Her brother’s greatest fear was being abandoned by his sister.

Panic washed over his face instantly. “I... I’m staying home, watching the kids, Sis. Please don’t... don’t leave me.”

Seeing his distress, Lindsay softened her tone, trying to soothe him. “As long as you do what I say, I’ll always be here for you.”

“I’ll listen, I promise. I’ll be good,” he said earnestly before hanging up.

No sooner had he put down the phone than Maggie slapped him hard across the face.

Maggie was furious. She had hoped he would lure Lindsay out so she could gather more information. Instead, he’d blabbered nonsense.

He didn’t understand why he was being hit and certainly didn’t dare retaliate.

Maggie was already at her wit’s end. She’d gone through all the trouble of getting this man to Greenfield, and he was utterly useless. Her frustration turned to anger as she threatened him further.

“Call your sister again. Make sure she comes out this time, or I’ll leave you to fend for yourself in this big city. Without her, you’ll have no food, maybe not even survive. And then you’ll never see her again.”
