From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 108

Without a second thought, Jasper Lane blurted out, “Let’s be real—if Ethan wasn’t married now, Adelina wouldn’t be talking like this. I mean, you were so anxious before, I half expected you to start setting Ethan up with guys if he didn’t get his act together.”

The room fell silent. Suddenly, all eyes were on him.

Especially one pair—cold as ice, sharp as daggers.

Jasper’s grin froze on his face. He wished he could smack himself. Crap. Why couldn’t he just keep his mouth shut for once?

He let out a nervous chuckle and tried to brush it off. “Just kidding, guys! I’m just talking nonsense, don’t take me seriously.”

He gave in immediately, quick to backpedal.

Ethan Carter shot a glance at Olivia Bennett. She was laughing, her eyes sparkling like stars. When she caught Ethan looking, she paused, blinked innocently at him, then broke into an even bigger grin.

Ethan turned away, clapping Jasper on the shoulder. “Let’s go for a walk.”

Jasper’s heart skipped a beat, and he sat up straight. “Uh, actually, I was hoping to chat with Grandma and the others… It’s been forever since I’ve seen everyone…”

Ethan didn’t say yes or no. He just gave Jasper another pat and stood up himself.

Jasper looked around for support.

Adelina was grinning, not a trace of sympathy in her eyes.

The others weren’t any better—just a bunch of heartless people, he thought.

Jasper shook his head, letting out a dramatic sigh. “Guess this is it.”

He stood up, following Ethan out. The two of them disappeared from the living room.

Lily George, the family matriarch, patted Olivia’s hand with a warm smile. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. Those two are brothers—they bicker, but it’s nothing serious.”

Lily smiled, knowing Olivia was probably too polite to say if she needed anything. “If you want something, just ask, okay? Make yourself at home. This place is as much yours as anyone’s.”

No matter the reason, Lily’s warmth was genuine. It almost reminded Olivia of the comfort she used to feel with her own grandmother.

Olivia’s eyes softened. “Thank you, I will.”

With Jasper and Ethan gone, the room didn’t feel much different. Lily and Adelina kept the conversation lively, and Olivia joined in easily.

Lance Carter chimed in every now and then, but after a while, seeing the women chatting away, he headed upstairs without a fuss.

Adelina poured Olivia and Lily each a glass of water, and as she glanced up, she noticed the butler hurrying in from outside.
