From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 325

The car. The license plate. Both were so familiar.

She could recite that license plate number in her sleep—it was Ethan Carter’s, no doubt about it.

In a split second, Olivia Bennett’s heart pounded so hard she thought it might burst right out of her chest. Her fingertips went numb, and for a moment, it was as if the whole world hit pause. Everything around her blurred.

Clang.

The sound of her phone hitting the hardwood floor snapped Olivia out of her trance.

Her eyes filled with tears. She didn’t want to believe what she’d just seen.

Maybe someone else had borrowed Ethan’s car.

Maybe Ethan wasn’t even in the car.

Maybe it was nothing at all…

She tried to reassure herself, but her tears betrayed her, slipping down her cheeks faster than she could brush them away.

Not bothering to wipe them, Olivia pushed herself up from the couch and hurried out of the room.

Down the stairs.

Only Adelina Lane and Lance Carter were in the living room, deep in conversation, not noticing Olivia as she approached.

Before Olivia could get close, Adelina suddenly shot up from her seat, her voice trembling, “Ethan… Ethan was in an accident? That can’t be!”

Olivia stood there, tears streaming down her face, her legs heavy as lead, unable to move. The words she’d just overheard swirled in her mind, echoing over and over.

Adelina rushed over, catching Olivia just as her knees threatened to give out. She wrapped her arms around Olivia, desperate to comfort her. “It’s going to be okay. Olivia, honey, don’t worry. Ethan’s going to be just fine.”

Olivia felt her strength drain away. If Adelina hadn’t been holding her, she would have collapsed right there on the living room rug.

She tried to speak, but no words would come out. Her tears fell faster, like a string of pearls breaking and tumbling everywhere.

Lance hurried over, his face creased with worry, not just for Ethan now, but for Olivia too.

He tried his best to reassure her. “It’s not as bad as it sounds, I promise. I saw the footage—the car was hit, but it wasn’t serious. Ethan should be okay. Let’s not jump to the worst, alright?”
