There had already been one, and now there was another.
Olivia Bennett looked at him through her tears, breaking into a smile. “Two now.”
Ethan Carter stood up and gently wiped away her tears with his finger. “That’s not so many.”
She shot him a look.
It didn’t have the slightest bit of menace; in fact, with her eyes still shining with tears, she looked more radiant than ever—her eyes sparkled under the warm light, brighter than any star.
Ethan grinned, cupping her face as if she were the rarest treasure in the world, kissing her softly, carefully.
Damian Franklin and the others, sensing the moment, had already made themselves scarce the moment Ethan pulled Olivia into his arms.
When the kiss ended, Olivia stayed nestled against Ethan’s chest, feeling as warm and sweet as if she’d eaten a whole bag of cotton candy.
“When did you plan this?” she asked.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Today just felt right.”
Olivia poked his chest and huffed, “You tricked me, you know? I was scared out of my mind just now.”
Ethan pressed a kiss to her forehead. “That was the last time, I promise. No more secrets.”
She smiled, “I believe you.”
…
Three months later, it was their wedding day.
Olivia was getting ready at Damian Franklin’s place. Nannie Bruce, Elaine Carter, Helen Adams, and Davina Ford were her bridesmaids.
It was the perfect wedding—parents, friends, and even little Carey were all there.
Everything was just... wonderful.
It was easily one of the happiest days of Olivia’s life.
That night, Ethan returned to their room to find Olivia playing with Carey. The little girl was squealing with laughter and Olivia was teasing her, both of them lost in the moment.
Ethan joined in, and the three of them played for ages. Carey was more energetic than ever—rather than winding down, she just got more wound up the longer they played.
Ethan’s look shifted from doting dad to just a little bit desperate.
At some point, fireworks exploded outside—bright, colorful bursts lighting up the sky.
Olivia quickly covered Carey’s ears, but the little girl just watched in fascination, her big eyes wide and curious.
Ethan slipped his arms around Olivia from behind. “Pretty, huh?”
Olivia nodded without hesitation.
