From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 392

Daniel Gill looked awful—like the world had just ended for him.

“Daniel,” Damian Franklin called softly.

Daniel’s glazed eyes slowly focused, but his face stayed ghostly pale. He shook his head in a daze, mumbling, “No need.” The words were barely a whisper, so fragile they seemed about to fall apart.

Damian watched him for a moment, concern clear on his face, but didn’t push. Instead, he offered Daniel a business card. “Here. That’s my number. If you ever need anything, just call.”

Daniel wasn’t even sure how the card ended up in his hand. By the time he blinked back to the present, Damian was already gone.

He stared down at the card, veins throbbing in his temples, head pounding. Each breath felt heavy, like the weight of everything he’d ever believed was crushing him from the inside out. Helplessness, confusion, and a deep, cold loneliness washed over him.

Nance Buck had always told him that Halley Hill had co-founded The Carter Group with Mason Bennett. But after the company went public, Mason wanted it all for himself—and Halley paid the price. Daniel had lived his whole life with those words in his head: “Avenge Halley. Take back what should have been your father’s.”

But now, the truth hit him like a slap in the face. The Carter Group had never belonged to Mason Bennett. It certainly never belonged to his father either. His dad had just been an employee, nothing more.

So what was there to take back?

Everything blurred around Daniel. He couldn’t hear, couldn’t think—grief and rage and emptiness stormed inside him. It felt like his spine had snapped; he couldn’t stand. He slid down against a column and crumpled to the floor, clutching the business card so tightly it crumpled in his fist.

...

Mason Bennett ended up in prison. The Carter Group was back in the right hands. Life, for once, seemed to be settling down.

To celebrate, Damian Franklin invited the entire Carter family to his house for a classic Sunday roast. They sat around the big oak table, passing mashed potatoes and roast beef, laughter echoing through the house as the sun dipped low outside.

Upstairs, Olivia Bennett was feeding baby Carey. As always, once Carey’s belly was full, she drifted off to sleep. Olivia gently laid her in the crib, stretched, and just as she was about to enjoy a rare moment of quiet, someone knocked on the door.

It was Adelina Lane. “Ethan’s hurt,” she said, breathless. “Olivia, you better come quick.”

“Hurt? How?” Olivia’s brow creased with worry. She closed the door gently behind her and hurried after Adelina down the stairs.
