From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 109

When Eleanor woke up, her head was still pounding a little. Memories from last night came back in pieces. She remembered the drinks, running into that creep on her way home, and Max showing up just in time to save her. How did Max always manage to appear exactly when she needed someone the most? Honestly, it felt like he was some kind of living guardian angel.

On her way out, she caught the security guards at the gate deep in conversation.

“Which building was that pervert from last night in? I can’t believe people like that live here.”

“See, the richer they are, the nastier they get. He totally deserved what he got. Heard he got beaten up, hauled off to the police, and his wife had to go straight there as soon as she got back.”

“Serves him right. Now we’re stuck doing extra patrols. Just more work for us. So annoying.”

Eleanor slipped past them, quietly relieved they had no idea she was at the center of it all. Still, she had to admit Max was seriously impressive. He never wasted time or words. With extra patrols now, even the boldest troublemaker would think twice.

She got into her car and made a mental note to pick out a gift for Max this weekend. Last time, the tie she’d given him wasn’t even meant for him. He’d basically just taken it. This time, she wanted to give him something real, something that mattered.

During her lunch break, Eleanor was still trying to decide what to cook for Mr. Clarkson when her phone buzzed.

[Got a dinner meeting tonight. I won’t be home, so don’t worry about making anything.]

For some reason, getting these little updates from him felt weirdly personal, like this part-time job had quietly woven her life together with his in unexpected ways.

Since her evening was suddenly free, she decided to go visit Jared at the hospital. Thankfully, her mom was almost never there at night. Seeing her mother always ended in a fight, especially since she’d filed for divorce. The last time they argued, Jared texted to check on her and she’d just replied with a cold, one-word answer. She felt bad about it, and that guilt pushed her to go see him.

“You’re disgusting, Peter. That bone marrow was already part of the deal for the recording incident. Now you’re using it to threaten my brother?”

Peter just sneered. “Eleanor, you really think you can keep slapping me and get away with it?”

Her anger spiked hotter. She slapped his other cheek. “You deserve every bit of it. If you don’t give my brother the bone marrow, I’ll take everything public. You really think that recording is the only evidence I have about you and Jessie?”

Peter narrowed his eyes, clearly surprised she dared to push back.

“I said I can arrange the transplant for your brother, but you have to drop the lawsuit. I’m not letting you divorce me. You killed my child, Eleanor. After that, do you really think you can just walk away with half my money?”
