From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 119

Jessie stared her down, not backing off for a second. “If that’s how you want to see it, sure.”

Eleanor’s expression turned cold. “Aren’t you scared I’ll put those pictures of you and Peter online?”

Jessie just smirked, way too confident. “Knock yourself out. Adam already told me he’ll delete anything you post. So, let’s see who’s faster—you uploading, or my brother taking it down.” Last time, Eleanor got lucky because they weren’t prepared. This time, it was different. Adam had promised her that no matter what kind of dirt Eleanor had, it wouldn’t get past him. “Sorry, Eleanor. Not everyone gets a brother like mine.”

Her family, her brother—those were things Eleanor could never compete with. All Eleanor had was a sick brother and a mom who just made things harder.

“If you agree, go sign the papers with Mom. I’ll go to the hospital. If you don’t, well, all I can say is… I’m sorry for your loss.”

Eleanor bit down hard, so hard she tasted blood. Even then, she straightened her back and walked out of Jessie’s office with every ounce of pride she had left.

But as soon as she stepped outside the Horizon Collective building, the weight of it all hit her. Was this really her only option? Did she really have to just take it?

She wandered through the crowd, not even sure where she was going. Her heart felt like ice. The world seemed so dark, like every last bit of hope had just disappeared.

Then suddenly, someone screamed from the sidewalk. “Help, someone! This old lady just collapsed!”

Eleanor’s mind snapped back to the present. She pushed through the people gathering around. On the ground, an elderly woman was convulsing, her face shifting from red to purple, then a scary gray. Eleanor couldn’t help but think of Jared, and what could happen to him.

Eyes burning, she dropped to her knees and checked for a pulse on the woman’s neck. Nothing. She leaned in, ear to the chest. Silence. The woman was in cardiac arrest.

“Her heart stopped! Call 911! I’m starting CPR!” Eleanor shouted.

Her phone started buzzing in her pocket, over and over. The caller ID made her chest tighten. She answered, voice shaky. “Hello, Doctor?”

It was the hospital. Her mind raced—had something happened to Jared?

“Ms. Rolland, we tried calling you so many times! There’s amazing news. We found a perfect match for Jared in the bone marrow registry. The donor is happy to help. Can you come to the hospital now?”

Eleanor’s knees buckled and she started crying, the relief almost too much to bear. “Are you serious? Really?”

“I’m serious. Come as soon as you can. But don’t rush. Be careful on your way.”

Eleanor sank to the ground, tears soaking through her jeans. Jared was going to be okay.
